@sheryl don't feel too bad, this is my first one to bloom after years of casually trying, the plant was a throw away that I claimed, it sat neglected in a box in the driveway for a 2 weeks, as soon as I brought it in, it bloomed!

Presumably the drop in light triggered the blooms?

Has anyone seen the REALLY yellow one that my Grandmother used to grow? I've researched and researched and even bought one that was supposed to be bright yellow like hers;....only to be dissapointed with a faded tan yellowish form. Hers may have been the later Easter blooming form with the rounded leave segments, but whichever, Grandma's was BRIGHT yellow! Othe family members remember that too......and her plants were huge!

David Paul, is this yellow enough...sometimes the yellows change depending on the amount of sunshine they get. Then again the many hybrids I have been looking at are just called Yellow and do not have other names. I have several starter plants in the greenhouse that are yellow and they are about a year old if you want to look at my Cubits store. I will trade also after blooming season.









These are just beginning to wilt.

There are some orange that are even more beautiful than the yellow and again, their colors vary from pure orange to salmon. I wish I could do hybrids but I am not that smart.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful pictures of beautiful flowers; yet alas and alack, this is not the true bright yellow Grandma had;...........gosh why didn't Mom or one of our other family members keep her beauties through the years??? No one loved plants more then Grandma back than, then Grandma I suppose......

It stayed in the Genes-pool in me though later on! It was just to late to save her true Yellow Beauties of this incredible plant.

David did you look on eBay because I have seen some there but how true the colors are to what you get if you buy would depend on the honesty of the seller. Mine are all the pale yellow. I still have as I think I told you before the true orange. If you want a piece of that I will gladly send it to you. It looks like this.

I bought it as the Zygocactus x orange. I was lucky it was a true orange My camera does not show how really orange it is.

The darkness of the yellow will depend on both the plant and the temperature the blooms are formed at.

JB-- what are you looking for in trade? I would be interested in trading for CC/TC with you after bloom season!

I was wondering if the temperature had anything to do with the color but the ones in the greenhouse which are much warmer and just the same yellow as the ones I have in the house at a constant temp. of 70 deg, Since they are all hybrids, wouldn't the color depend on which plants were hybridized? Xmas Flame for example is a hybrid yellow but it has other shades mixed in.
It is difficult to find a pure deep yellow. I have never seen one. I too think the temperature or something in their environment gives them a different shade....but I have no idea what it is.

I am not really looking to trade anything but if someone wants something I have and I have cuttings I am not selling I will be happy to trade with them. After blooming is over of course.
What cultivars do you want in particular. You can see much of my stock on Pinterest , my database on Cubits is not complete, nor is my list here on ATP but the list here is needs information filled in and some pictures updated, just need the time to do it. Look at JBs list if you want to see that I have. JBsPlants should find me on Pinterest.

Here is pretty much my schedule for my CC/TC/HC or whatever you want to call the Zygocactus or Schlumbergera.
January - Still flowering
Feb. and March - resting ( 60-70 deg. very little watering) Can be cooler if you have a place to put them.
April and May. Begin to water thoroughly when they are dry.
June to August - Put some outside in shade or partly shade...not full sun .
Sept. to Oct. Reduce daylight hours becasue buds are getting ready to form. Keep on the dry side and cool until the buds form, then increase the water and the temperature.

All your blooms are so pretty! I've had no luck getting mine to bloom, although after a close call with it when moving, I've just been glad to see it continuing to grow.

JB-- the temperature cutoff I believe is 68*F. So your house and the greenhouse which is warmer than your house are going to be in the same coloring range. You need something cooler to explore other options :)

Hmm I like your old salmon, the Twilight Tangerine, Christmas Flame, Peaches and Cream, Christmas Fantasy, and the pink easter cactus. I also like your S x buckleyi pictured here and the S. russeliana, Le Vesuv, and Samba Brazil.

I also understand that is a lot lol.
