Gothic, awesome! Mine is right behind yours! This awesome peach/orange flower is on a little cutting with maybe 7-8 leaf sections total.

On behalf of the plants, thanks! I've never been to 'the desert' before but the dry air has got to be a pretty serious problem for some plants, understandably so for those from a tropical rain forest! If it can be done, I'm sure you will, Sheryl! The grass is always greener... right? Or do we just want it ALL?

Here is my old old Schlumbergera x Buckleyi , yet in between some of the stems of Buckleyi there are some signs of Truncata therefore, I have no clue what it is. I wish I could look at the flower and say exactly what it is. What do you all think it is. I named it Petra's Pink because it came to me from a lady from So. Africa by that name.

The flower is radially symmetrical, therefore S. x buckleyi. If S. truncata it would be pointing to one side, looking at it from the side, usually pointing down. If S. truncata, looking at the opening, there would only be one axis of symmetry. S. x buckleyii flower is symmetrical from any axis (radially symmetrical.)

What about it makes you question the ID? Something besides what's in these 2 pics?

Tif, the stems are so very narrow compared to my other S. Buckleyi. If it was a horse, I would say the features were so "fine" compared to the others. Do you understand what I am trying to say?

I think so. I'm better with visual aids if you feel like popping up a pic or two. I don't think that stem girth matters though. If the leaves don't give it away, the flowers are definitive.

Your plant reminds me of this strange cutting. All of the other cuttings I did are 'normal' but this one is making smaller and smaller leaves and tiny buds to go with them. Can't wait to see one open, hope they do. It's definitely S. truncata, but some kind of mutant mini one.

Jacquie, we all hope that when a plant is kind of unusual! I wouldn't be surprised if you created the next cool hybrid. Keep having fun with them!

BTW, I'll be interested to see what blooms on your "mutant mini" cutting. A new hybrid would be amazing.

Jacquie,
Have you checked out this Euro site? look for his Queens group.

Ladies, Remember "Buckleyi is itself a hybrid of S Truncata x S. Russelliana there are more hybrids like this out there and my understanding is it depends on which parent's genes are the most dominate, determines whether the stems have the hooks (Truncata)or not (Russellian)a

Yes Cliff, I have used that information in your link many times in answering questions for people. It is a wonderful source. In fact the picture of the different leaves was one of the first ones I used many years ago when I was learning how to tell these beauties apart. Thank you for bringing it up. I have not looked at it for some time and found it good to review.
I also think this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlumbergera explains the different Groups in a way most people can understand. I found this very helpful also even now when I want to refresh my memory.

I still would love to have a S.russelliana and if I ever got one I think I would sit up and look at it 24/7. nodding Or else buy a vault for it. nodding

I will show you some of the greens on my old pink plant that started this discussion.

There if no confusion about this plant, it is a S. Buckleyi. I was merely discussing how both the truncata and the russelliana were obvious in the stems, plus I am still not good at telling the difference in the shape of the flowers. I did not mean to confuse anyone. Sorry. nodding
