My Nan has had this plant for 30 years but it is getting too big for the house she is in, what type of aspidistra is this & how much is it worth? I've never seen one this big!

Aspidistra do get large and your Nan's plant is gorgeous! They are usually grown as landscape plants; I've never known anyone to grow it as an indoor house plant. Great growing! Thumbs up I'm not sure which one you have but it might be Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra elatior)

We have a few Aspidistra listed in our database with photos for comparison: http://garden.org/plants/searc...

I still don't know what type it is, it doesn't grow flowers or have stripes or speckles on the leaves, they are just green! She is wanting to sell it because it's far too big but I can't seem to find anything similar to compare it to, all that is available are really little plants or artificial leaves?

Hi & welcome! Very nice! The species is shown here (that Lin also linked to):
Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra elatior)

All of the cultivars listed in the DB here are derivatives of that species. Although other species exist, that species may be the only one in commerce in the US.

The blooms happen at the soil level. If it bloomed, you would likely never notice under so much gorgeous foliage. Potted plants are often reluctant to bloom. It could be divided when being repotted. It's not necessary for it to be bigger than space allows.

What an attractive and unusual dining set, BTW!

As to what it's worth ... well, I guess that's subject to the individual who is looking for a large plant. You will probably just have to put a price on it and see if you get any interest.

Amazon has a 24" to 30" plant selling for $18.00: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ADRAVQ/

Plant Delights has a 24" tall plant listed at $26.00 and a 30" at $26.00 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ADRAVQ/

Stokes Tropicals has 12" to 15" tall plants selling for $29.95: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ADRAVQ/

TyTy Nursery has a variegated Aspidistra in a 1 gal pot listed for $59.95: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ADRAVQ/

Shipping charges for a large plant could be quite expensive also so someone would have to consider the end cost if purchasing on-line.

What a stunning plant!

Aspidistras were very popular here in Victorian times and are grown exclusively as houseplants over here in the UK.

If you could get someone local to collect your plant I'm sure you could get a decent price for it. It certainly deserves someone who would take good care of it. Not sure if there's anywhere on this website where you could advertise it. You don't say where you're located.

Aspidistra flowers are curious things and very easy to miss. As Tiffany says they are at ground level and quite fleshy looking.

Hope you find it a good home.

Mazapp666, we do have a Classified Forum here on site where you can place a free ad to see if any interest is generated on that gorgeous plant: http://garden.org/forums/view/... Your Nan's plant is a really stunning specimen and you never know, you may find a buyer willing to pay your asking price plus shipping expenses!

We are located in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. Not sure what to even price it at, as it is much bigger than any we've seen on any websites. My Nan repots it regularly to give it space to grow.

Tell Nan she's been much too nice to that beautiful plant.

If you can, take it outside and divide it in half or even quarters. Pot them up, give away or sell 3 of them and give Nan back the nicest one to pamper some more. I'm sure she'd miss it terribly if it were gone, and this way she gets to keep it, make a little money, and get half her room back as well. Best of all worlds!

There's a reason why they're commonly called "Cast Iron Plant" - it's because it's next to impossible to kill them.
