Thread OP

Growing my first vine of table grapes, Candice Red. Third year growing first time letting berries grow.
Grapes are sweet, 20-22 brix, but skins are sour and a little tougher than I thought. Ripening is a little uneven in bunches though I read this type can be.
Yellow jackets are all over the grapes. I would say at least 25 at one time. I finally put some white weed blocker material over the whole vine. It is very thin. Light can get through pretty good.
Question is will the skins get sweeter?
All you bee huggers, I don't mind sharing but not with an angry mob. Hehehe.
Peace
Peter

I am growing the same one, it's second year here and it is producing fruit. (we have 6 different eating grapes) No idea on the skins, I am just trying to keep them from the birds, including my chickens! No yellow jackets on them, so far. We are just eating them off the vine right now, maybe we'll wait to see if they get any sweeter before cutting them all off.
I see that @KentPfeiffer is also growing this one, maybe he can add more info.

Hilarious! I'm a bee huger but a yellow jacket murderer. I don't grow Candice, I only have a hand full of rare grapes and a few Vitis rotundifolia. Hopefully the skin gets sweeter for you but some grapes have sour skins and I treat them like I would a slip skin grape just eating the inside.

If grapes are ripe an sweet. Skin isnt gonna get sweeter. Skins on any fruit or vege is more bitter than inside . Some.more some less.
I hate yellowjackets 😬 search 4 nests. Knock em down with stick an squish.
Jackets allways come back home to look 4 new home. 2nd use this fact against da boogers. They cant fly when its below ? Something like 45 50 degree F . So go hunting . early morn. Its eeeezzzz #
Poke em with a stick . They fall to ground.
Ha ha! KNOW ! Squish em before day crawl away !!! Welcome! I tip my hat to you.

Philip yellow jackets are ground dwelling wasps sometimes they get in between siding of homes or in other places but they rarely if ever have an exposed nest. I think you are thinking of paper wasp.

- and we'd be waiting for months for it to get too cold for them to fly.
