Ok, I though I had started an Aldi thread. But, I didn't. So, now I am!

While reviewing the ad for next week, 25-May-2017, I saw something very exciting.... to me at least.

They are bringing back the Bremer Gyro Kit!
Thumb of 2017-05-19/RickM/0bc01d

It's $6.99 for a 38oz kit that has the meat, bread and tzatziki sauce for 5 gyros. I used to get them quite often. They're great for a quick meal. Just shred some lettuce and slice some tomatoes. The meat is already sliced and just need heated in a fry pan.

It's time to clear some real space in the freezer!

I've never seen the gyro kit but sounds worth a try.
I love the mini cukes. 99 cents is awesome.
Plant it and they will come.

I love gyros, that might be worth a stop. I did most of my shopping @ Grocery Outlet, they have more brand names and prices are like Aldis. I gave in to my dark side *Blush* yesterday, a dozen mixed fancy Maple donuts $1.49. Drooling Here's an easy way to see if any GOs are near you:

We have an ex-employee who brings Maple Donuts once in a while when she visits. The staff go bonkers with joy.
Plant it and they will come.

Went to Aldi this morning for the gyro kits. They weren't out yet, but one of the staff was kind enough to dig through the pallet in the freezer to find them. She said that they used to be a regular product, but she didn't know how long they would be around this time... get 'em while we got 'em.

I got 'em.... x 4

Can you believe I just paid $3.49 per pound for red grapes (which is a lunchtime staple for Jim's folks) at Harris Teeter? and that's the "cheaper" of the nearby groceries. I'm going to see if Winston-Salem has an Aldi's!

Me neither, but they literally have EXACTLY the same thing for lunch every. single. day. They'll occasionally substitute cherries for the grapes, but those were $5.50 per pound!

I have since discovered a newly opened Walmart "Neighborhood Market" with better prices. Got a nice little seedless watermelon at TJ's yesterday for $3. Do you think they'd go for that? LOL, I actually substituted some really sweet canteloupe today, and they ate it and said, "what a nice change!"

Competition ahead for Aldi! Another German grocery store, named Lidl, has begun opening stores in eastern US. To date, most are in VA and NC.

Cool... looks like one is opening in W-S next weekend, if I'm still here then!

Also just figured out that the Aldi's here is quite close to Sam's Club, and since I'll probably have to make a run to Sam's before long, I can hit Aldi's at the same time.

Grapes are 199 a pound down here right now.

We finally got an Aldi in gainesville. I was so excited. Got there, had to pay to use the grocery cart, went in thinking I was going to see alot of nice produce, as their ad is just a big page of pretty produce .I guess they are not all the same, as this was a big store with all store brand stuff and this little corner with some produce...not even good produce thown up there. Ill never go back. I guess they are not all the same, and it just depends what state your in. I much prefered Lucky's or Earth Fare. Fresh market and trader joes ok too. I really wanted to love Aldi tho. Shrug!

Produce does vary store to store, I'm sure. The produce section isn't very big in the 2 Aldi's I'm familiar with -- some things are a great deal and look fabulous, other items not so much. I stop by for their store-brand "staples," from crackers to soup, and I almost always find something great in the produce section and in the "seasonal" aisle. But I take an attitude of "let's see what looks good this week" rather than "today I will get cantaloupe, peppers, and strawberries."

I really have to check the produce at the two Aldis I go to. Some things are great, others not so much. Agree with Jill. Hmmm let's see what looks good today. I go mainly for staples. I even have to watch the meat as well.
You do get your quarter back though when you return the cart.
