I usually just give someone a quarter for their cart in the lot. Hilarious! Our Aldi usually has pretty nice produce. I haven't seen grapes under $2/# since last summer.

Sweet cherries were $2.49 per pound at Walmart today! I don't know what they are at Aldi's, but the Walmart Neighborhood Marketplace is just up the road. :-)

I wonder if it will be another summer of fabulous watermelons? The one I cut into this morning is delicious!

My problem wasnt the quarter, its that I didnt have one. Big hassle. That was my only problem.

So far, watermelons down here have been very sweet. I prefer the old seeded ones that taste like a watermelon, but more importantly, have the texture of a watermelon. Waiting on some good peaches. Lovey dubby

I've been getting seedless ones more often than not, because I cut them up half at a time, cold from the fridge, and take them over to my neighbor's pool. (We don't need to be rinsing seeds off the pool surround!)

My FIL has to watch fibers and particles like seeds, so I did take out the few little immature seeds in the "seedless" watermelon I just got. And I made him promise not to swallow the pits from the 3 cherries he had at lunch! LOL

Pam, I'm really sorry it didn't meet your hopes. It is a specialty store of its own kind as you now know. And when not prepared for the quarter thing, of course, that is a pain.
Yes, produce is quite basic. The frozen vegetables are even more limited. It's really a place to buy 'generic' type things cheap. The store brand items I have tried are fine for the most part. Then supplement by going to the big fancy (just kidding) regular grocery store, with the ten kinds of Triscuits.

If you like Cheezits, then Aldis version are not up to par. But sometimes I buy the Aldi ones so that I don't eat a half box at once.

Aldi= Lidi, too funny.
Plant it and they will come.

We almost always stay in Freeport Grand Bahama. Once we stayed on Abaco at Marsh Harbor. Lovey dubby There was no processed food served there. If you were sitting in a cafe they were open till you left. Hilarious! otherwise they rolled up the sidewalks at 9pm. Smiling

I have never heard of Aldi so looked online. Found this informative article (which is not as negative as its title suggests).

Yeah, we have one of those in our small town, which I call the 'junk store' - I suppose it has some good deals but lousy produce and very little meat (some prepackaged overly seasoned weird stuff) and I'm more of a one-stop shopper. I have a bit of agrophobia and don't enjoy shopping. At all.

If you have a GO (Grocery Outlet) near you, stop and check it out. Their gourmet cheese selection and pricing is next to Audi's, but their sales of soon to be expired meats is great. I got 3#s of chicken tenders for about $3. At that price I sub it for hamburger in a lot of recipes. I've gotten sausage for 1/2 the market price. Produce is iffy, but for immediate use is okay. They have a lot of seasonal items, some useful some cheap knock-offs, and not worth the reduced price. The other thing I like is, I use a lot of walnuts and craisins in my chop salads and sandwich salads. Think chicken salad with golden raisins and walnuts, and they sell then in bulk bags at very good prices. If you mix your own trail mixes a must. I still shop Audi's, but some of their unfamiliar brands have been a disappointment. Thumbs up

interesting article, Deb. we have so many chain groceries here, we shop Aldi plus a chain every week.
A cookbook entirely Aldi items- what a concept!!.

No GO here at all. There are 'bargain outlets', salvage places, that sell boxed /canned food but it doesn't seem like a great deal, odd brands, or else the store makes me feel so sketchy about food safety that I just can't get excited even about boxed dry goods.
Plant it and they will come.

My one attempt to shop Grocery Outlet was a fail. Totally opposite the Aldi concept of charging for carts, the clerks at GO didn't have a clue about reuseable bags. I almost always bring my own and when I offered them to the clerk, she just bagged into plastic then put the plastic bags into my totes. I quickly corrected that, but sheesh. Lots of stange (to me) brands, lots of junk/packaged food. Fairly good wine selection at decent prices. Probably good for basic canned goods, but I'm not even sure if they carried anything organic (don't recall, so I could be mis-remembering). I'll stick to my tried and true Haggen which is 5 minutes from my home, a bit more expensive, but I know where everything is. I'm lazy.
