Since the NGA is home to many photographers, it would be interesting to know what camera everyone shoots with and wants. In my case, I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 as my main camera. My dream camera would be a Nikon D5.

I do not need a DSLR and a bag full of lenses and accessories. I like to travel light and ease of use. BAM, this is my camera! Reviews are good and will get better. I wanna stick with Nikon. I do very little post-processing aside from sharp/unsharp.

I'd pay $1k for this P&S over a common DSLR. I feel it suits my needs better as a hack that simply enjoys taking pictures . Open to opinion...

I agree Wes, I've never wanted a DSLR. My Sony DSC HX200V can take a 1 inch away macro then zoom in on a bird 50 yards away. It does everything I want. I would love the new RX10 III. I've used Sony cameras for years and love their Zeiss lenses.

I've got an old Canon Rebel EOS Xsi 450D dslr and it will have have over 10,000 shutter activations on it by Saturday evening. It's been really used hard, in the rain, freezing temps, sleet, and the scorching, high humidity heat of the southern US..but its still going for now.
I don't know what I would buy if this camera gave out on me. I have not even looked at what is out there now. I do know it will be a Canon because I have so much money invested in Canon compatible lens.
I'm going to drive this one until the wheels fall off.

I had 3 different digital P&S cameras before I switched to DSLR. Being able to change lenses is a big deal for me. Such a vast change in pix quality, I never look at any pix taken with the P&Ss. Currently I have a Canon 70D and will get an 80D soon. Gene

I have just bought an Olympus Stylus1s. It's as close to a DSLR as I want to be. It's neat and very clever. I'm on a steep learning curve!

It is all about lenses. I have a great collection of most of the best lenses ever made. Yes, costs money. I am not interested in travelling light. Gene

Understand what you are talking about. Carrying a backpack full of expensive lenses is no fun. That DL 24-500 has got some serious specs! Bridge cameras are getting more and more comparable to DSLRs …

I think a 70D with good lenses will always have sharper images than a P & S. But in my experience they are not that bad.

Yes, P&S are getting better and better all the time. If I did want to travel light, that would be the way to go. If I was just shooting for fun and memories, again might be the way to go. I sell pictures for a living. I have to have the best quality. Highly competitive out there. Just moving from a P&S to a DSLR does not necessarily get you better pictures. In fact, the #1 complaint from first time DSLR users is: Hey, I was getting better pix with my P&S. It is about lenses. The DSLR allows you to use better lenses which will produce better pix. But the kit lenses sold with many DSLR are no better, many worse than some P&S lenses. Gene

I have a Nikon DSLR.

I upgraded to a DSLR from a Canon P&S. i still like the Canon, but I was having trouble taking pictures of fast moving objects (my dog) with it. I started looking at Canon & Nikon DSLRs, plus some of the new mirrorless / MFT cameras. I hadn't totally made up my mind when a photographer friend / person who did the pictures at my wedding, started selling her Nikon gear to change over to Canon. She was selling her first DLSR, which also happened to be the camera she used at my wedding (which was also the first wedding she did). I jumped at the chance to get it. It was a D80. Great camera, and I love it to bits. It did start having issues about a year after I got it, so I sent it to Nikon to be fixed, but also got a D7000 for Christmas and use the D80 as a back up / husband camera.

I'm also always keeping my eye out for a good deal on a MFT to use when traveling. Traveling with a DSLR, plus a few lenses really takes up a lot of room, lol.

Cell phone.

I bought a NIKON p600 when my other Nikon died. It is very lightweight and fit my style of hobbyist photo taking of plants and wildlife. I don't try to take professional shots, but I like decent shots of vacations, garden photos, and animals. The 60 x works great for me. I also love that I can take a photo and make a short recording of what the photo is about. With my memory this has really been a plus, no notebook and pen necessary. It has good battery life, and fits my style. It is worthless for action shots. Don't expect a point and shoot to take professional looking photos,but there are lots of shots I could not take with a DSLR that I can get with my little P600, because there is no way I could afford a great lens and camera to take distant photos like I can get with my little 60x camera.

I have the Nikon 3100DSLR camera and have one zoom lens. It's just what I have and I do enjoy it. I take a lot of nature pictures especially ones of my flowers and a lot of birds and animals. When I'm not using that camera I use my phone.

I use a Canon with the built in zoom. I also use my cell phone

I would like to find something not so bulky. Any suggestions? I took some nice zoom shots of buffalo and elk at Yellowstone this summer. I am not at home or I would upload one.

It looks like the first camera on the top link. Just without the extra lenses. Mine zooms out far. Doesn't that sound techy lol.
