Lot of tropical plantings around the resort but no public gardens in the area, unfortunately. The Sandals we're at is away from the cities, areas outside look very depressed. Sad to say it doesn't look like all of the money coming in to the resort has really helped the nearby economy. Isn't that always the way of it?

Another thing about gardens that was not mentioned here - magazines. Luckily I am able to borrow ones from local libraries. One of my faves is House and Garden UK edition.. Some pics of gardens are rather stunning.

Enjoy online ones!

Liz, I found that areas around big hotels in any country are rather depressing as it is a big hole with no connection to local life and generally cement jungle with different levels of security... Some are better than others as those hotel companies are buying huge parcels of land in the cheapest and undeveloped places...sometimes with no locals around. But to be honest I enjoyed all of them - usually all inclusives have great views and nice beaches and the ones in hustle and bustle are just a place to drop off your luggage. Enjoy your stay!

P.S. The best one with a view was Shangri-La Rasa Sayang in Penang with magnificent old tree in the centre of courtyard. That was ages ago and I still remember that chose it because of unforgettable tree, pools and sea view...
Just to give a peek, oh, memories ...

Now I am aiming to visit Amalfi sometime soon. Thanks to Monty Don Italian Gardens Smiling

Liz, enjoy your trip to Jamaica. My DH and I got married at Sandals Dunn's River.

Be sure to go to Dunn's River Falls, to climb the falls, and Chukka Cove if you like to ride horses into the sea.

Rick's Cafe in Negril has amazing views of sunsets, and you can watch people diving from the cliffs there.

There's nothing wrong with watching videos, while on vacation! The areas around the hotel may not be pretty, however, there are neighborhoods in JA where many homeowners have gorgeous gardens.

Thanks, Alex for the links! Shangri-la sounds and looks like paradise! I will have to mark it as my next destination to visit. I love Malaysian foods and beaches.

Liz, I am glad you are able to get a break from winter. Hope your vacation break will renew your store of energy and spirit for gardening tasks when it warms up.

Here's another show on Netflix, that is wonderful, and get the tissues ready, you may cry when you watch this series.

The show is called "Love Your Garden", and the reasons that these families are getting their gardens done will bring you to tears.

Hi Liz,

I went to Apps on the TV remote, clicked on Netflix, and it asked for my email address and password to my email, and I've even able to a access it.

I've become addicted to "Love Your Garden"!

What a nice thread of ideas for the winter doldrums of which we are still very much experiencing here in the North. Never hold stock in the groundhog nonsense. If this is an early spring, I don't want to know what winter looks like!!

Liz, enjoy the sun...and warm...

It makes you wonder where the money goes. Try Grand Cayman, Virgin Gorda, St. John, Tortola, or La Isla Mujeres. I don't like going to islands where the locals live in cardboard huts while the resorts cater to money. Sorry Liz, don't mean to cast a dark cloud over Jamaica. Been there twice and simply just don't care for it.

Thanks, Alex and Annette for all these wonderful links to garden shows. I have been binge watching these shows and could not get myself to stop. These shows are so good that they take my mind off what happens outside with the snow and cold and all that comes with winter. Thank You! Thank You!

I'm right there with you, Gary. The drive in to the resort was an eye opener, don't plan to make it a regular vacation spot for the family.
