some updates
Another noid labelled purple, 8 inches across, double with lacey petals
a yellow noid labelled High Noon, but not
Yu Lou Dian Cui with the bloom fully open/first time bloomer. Showed the first pic yesterday. Today, fully open. Bloom is about 5 x 5 inches and smells wonderful.
The purple not (single pink)
Last buy not least, Godaishu
Another last but not least, the original tree peony I saw that started my peony journey. At the home of a WW II vet that my parents purchased. The TP that I dug up and transplanted had annually between 50 - 100 blooms. After transplantation, it died back completely to the ground and has regrown.
Dianne, the colors of your peonies are really saturated and intense! The weather and growing environment must be very favorable to your peony blooms. They are beautiful!
Bumplbea, your FR is gorgeous! I have my eye on that one! Would love to see a full bush shot of that someday!
Wow, Gary! What can I say! You have your best showing yet! All of your tree peony blooms are outstanding but what really caught my eye was your Godaishu. What a spectacular specimen! Look at those gorgeous huge blooms facing upward and almost cover the whole shrub. I can't also take my eyes of your full fluffy bomb blooms of Yu Lou Dian Cui with the lavender cast as well as the lavender purple blooms of your first tree peony shown in the last 2 pics. You must be so thrilled to have such a wonderful set of peonies blooming in your own garden.
How long did it take for Angel Emily to grow flowers after planted. My tree peonies took 3 years especially after the 3rd year of no blooms I threaten them they would end up in the burn pile if they didn't bloom. It worked and they finally bloomed. Pic of fuchsia ruffles.
I planted it in the Fall of 2015.
It would bloom, but this year is the first time it really looked like the photos on the internet. My older photos are in the database here if you want to go look.
I have Fuchsia Ruffles on order for this Fall also. It will be fun to compare our plants as they grow.
Patience is the key for tree peonies. And I learned about feeding them. It really does help. I have a Kamata Nishiki that is over 20 years old that had been just living, but now that I have started feeding it compost and compost tea it is really doing better. It looked like it was going to have two blooms on it this year, but I had two flash floods in February, and the last one knocked it completely over! The buds turned brown. 🙄.
Maybe next year it will bloom. The foliage is looking great.
Just wait until Craig's tree peonies start blooming. Your wishlist will grow!

Gary, I thought I was going to flood again, the rain was coming down so hard. It finally slacked up and the bulk of the storm went South of me. I did have 2.5 inches in my rain gauge. I hope it spares you!!
Your tree peonies are looking so good this year!! I really need to get Godiashu. Yours is just spectacular!!
Keep those pics coming!!

Here is the red tree peony that I have had forever. The rain has stained the petals. What do you think...is it Taiyo? It is a little more orange than the photos. It has a light rose fragrance.

The second bud on Angel Emily opened. I have received 4 inches of rain with high winds since the first bloom opened. I'm impressed that it is still intact!

Meiko2 - my peony bloom of the day is Coral Sunset too!!!! I love all the different coral hued peonies.
I'm lucky in that if and when it rains this time of the year in Sacramento, the rain is very light. Hope the rain and wind lightens up for all of you in stormy areas.
Coral Sunset color is just wonderful! It also has very adventitious roots. Due to me moving my CS several times, I now have CS peonies popping up all over the places that I had grown it. Some will develop bud and bloom even when they are small. Here is one that popped up last year and now is seen with a bud next to Diana Parks.
An update after all the storms and high winds.
And a new tree peony. Last fall at Thanksgiving, I bought Hephestos from Adelman's and planted it. I didn't expect a bloom this spring but lo and behold, it grew a bud. I went out this past Wednesday, and all the leaves had drooped down and looked dead. Upon closer inspection, all the limbs had a 90 degree bend and that was it. My suspicion is a rabbit or fawn tried to taste the plant. Anyway, today on Easter Sunday I was amazed to find this
Semi double and the most beautiful shade of dark red I have seen. I can best describe it as black velvet. The pics don't capture the deep dark red color. Beautiful.
