I totally believe that the phases of the moon have a direct effect on people. Of course it could be that people know when the moon is full and this just gives them an excuse to act plumb dumb. We listen to a police scanner sometimes and when the moon is full the folks talk about how bad the night will be. They are usually very right.

I know our weather here in Ne Ms has been about 10 degrees warmer since the first of March. Then, we flipped the last week of May and now. We're cooler than normal but way cooler than last year when we broke all known records for heat in the summer of 2011.

Sure can keep us guessing!!!

I too work in a Psychiatric Hospital. Mostly forensics with 2 civil units. But even then, we too have a LOT more admissions after a full moon, especially if that full moon is over a weekend.

I too have a lot more leaf streak or whatever this year. And some of my newly planted ones, even though they are in fresh new beds that I just made, and get adequate moisture - are not adapting as well. I have started cutting scapes on those newbies, which I never used to do (even though I know you are supposed to!) ~Jan

Solar flares cause bud drop? hmmmmm. Better get out my tinfoil hat! We had a week of 85 degree weather in very early spring which got everything up and growing, only to have frost nip it in the bud, you might say. My daylilies have an abnormal amount of yellow and brown leaves, and it is very dry now. I need to give everything a really good watering.

I have a couple of daylilies that are looking really sad this year - and they were fabulous last year. I hit them with the Tinker's Daylily Booster recipe a couple of days ago, and today I will hit them with the Bayer 3 in 1 Rose stuff. Don't think it is insect, it could be a fungus/mold - although we are really dry right now. But I will try this combo, and then after that they are on their own. They will either make it, or not. ~Jan

Here's a perfect example of how some of my effected daylilies look. This is Neon Rainbow after I had already cut off a few of the dead scapes. I do think the later blooming daylilies seem to be looking better with less bud drop and dead scapes, so it may have been that very hot April that hurt some of them.

I have a few that look like that too. Last year spider mites was the cause. Take a sheet of paper, put it under a dead leaf and tap the leaf and see if anything falls on the paper. If you have mites, you will see them. If not, it is probably just leaf streak or maybe weather related.

I had 3 daylilies last year that did this. All have different genetics and were in different beds and everything around them was healthy. Also they all look good this year. I think it was all weather related since we had a 6 month heavy snow winter and extremely cool wet spring.
I am so glad the plants ( Crossing my fingers as still early here ) are doing good this year. Wonder Of It All, Alexandra and Startle were the affected cultivar.

I worked for the Sheriff Office here for 20 years and you could always tell when it was a full moon as people suddenly had all kinds of problems and very agitated or excited. We all became fervent believers in the phenomena.

I've had several of my plants do this same thing. I laid it off on a different liquid fertilizer that I bought. It was a generic I got at a discount store really cheap. I found it strange that only a few plants were effected but that was all I could think of that might have caused it. They kinda looked blistered at first.. Then after a week or so, the leaves looked just like yours. It happened to some that I had repotted last fall, some that hadn't been repotted and even to a couple that I got in from Maryotts last Fall. So, I can't lay it off on anyone thing other than a freaky act of nature, I guess.

I wouldn't know if my daylilies had this are not. The weeds are taller than the plants right now. I lost alot of my irises and daylilies due to the drought we had last year here in Texas . Grumbling

Your drought was terrible. My hubby and I kept up with it last year because we went 6 months without rain a few years ago. The difference for us, we didn't get quite as hot as it was last year. I hope that the plants that survived are pretty because you know they are really tuff! I wish you the best with your plants this year.

This is one of my favorite daylilies from last year: Catherine Neal. I have a couple more in different beds doing the same thing. Have not found any small critters on or near the daylily. I hit it last week with Tinker's Daylily Booster (it uses molasses, and has never failed to help anything I have poured it on up until this bunch) then several days later hit it with the Bayer All In One Rose and Flower Care - so that should take care of any fungus or critters, plus give it a boost. 5 days later, it looks no better. It seems to be mostly one or two fans that are affected in the clump. Should I dig it up, pull the affected fans and replant? Or should I just let it go and watch it? Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Jan, this very same looking thing is happening to my Hog Heaven. It began after spraying
with a systemic fungicide. Don't know if that is a connection. So, it was sprayed with a
fungicide and insecticide, but continued to yellow. I dug it up, soaked it in a mild
bleach solution, rinsed well, let it dry for a short time. I checked the roots, crown, underside of
leaves. Saw nothing. Looked at the entire thing with a magnifying glass. Again,
saw nothing. It has now dwindled down to barely any plant left. It may be transplant
shock now, but nothing more that I can do, so it is a wait and see. Planted it in a pot to better observe.
I checked online for disease or pest, but found nothing that looks quite like this. It is a mystery to me.

I don't have any advice as to what you should do with yours. Just letting you know
what I have done, and that is not helping either. And it just makes me sick, I really
like this plant. It had a beautiful formed bloom before this happened. New last year.

Jan i have one exactly like that i clip the effected leaves down and i have green in the middle.
I am hoping this works beacause i have green leaves coming back up. I mainly think its due to weather
almost all my daylilies have scapes. But they are not all green and lush like usual . I thought about digging
it up and decided not too thought i would try clipping first.

My thought was to dig it up. I think I will try clipping it, and perhaps hitting it again with the Tinkers Daylily Booster recipe

1 teaspoon Epsom Salt
1 ounce sorghum molasses (I use whatever kind I can find)
1 Tablespoon of Baking Soda
! gallon of water.

It's still got some fans that are looking OK, so I think I will do this tonight, watch it for the next couple of days, and if it seems to continue to get worse, I will dig it up just like you did Shirlee. I have about 3 plants, in 2 separate beds that are doing this - and all were great healthy plants last year - and all the beds are only a year old.

It could possibly be that these plants are more susceptible to our Village water, which is mildly softened. (it is not supposed to affect plants). Maybe I will try to water those particular plants with water that has stood for a couple of days. I have never done this much hand watering since I started flower gardening. At this point, it is the only explanation I have. ~Jan

That really looks like some that my DH got a little toooooooo close with the roundup last year. It sure looks chemical. Like it's starting from the top and going down. I'd definitely cut the foliage off and being the very inquisitive person that I am, I'd dig mine up just to make sure that it hasn't been touched by voles.

I wish some of the ones that have the "know" would check this thread out. Maybe they know of, or have seen this somewhere. Group hug

Good Luck with your sick ones and may they recover with the speed of your love and care. Blessings, Mona

I have seen this on some of my daylilies. I have no clue what causes it but I usually pull the affected foilage off and then sprayed with a fungicide for rot. Sometimes I cut the whole fan down as far as I can then spray it. Here with our heat, humidity, and moisture it doesn't take much sometimes for foiliage like that to get all mushy and rot and then it can go into the crown so as a precaution I just spray with Banrot.
It kinda looks like crown rot to me, but without seeing it in person it's hard to tell. Have you pulled any of the foliage out to see if it smells rotty? Of course, not all of the various rot diseases have a smell. I think you would do good digging it up, that way you can get a better feel of what it may be. If possible I would remove the affected fans and replant them elsewhere after treating them with whatever way you plan. AND plant the other fans elsewhere as well. If it rot it is in the soil and it is quite possible that if you replant the daylily in the same spot then it will just reinfect it.

It could just be weather related

It could be rot, didn't notice any smell though, but at least one Catherine Neal, i am suspicious that it might be, On the other hand, I wonder why - it's been so dry.

It for sure isn't Round-up, haven't weed killed this year. And the other infected ones are in the center of a round bed.

I cut all the icky scapes off tonight, and hit them with the daylily booster. I think I will plan on digging those up later this week. Let the molasses, etc give them some energy before I disturb the plant. I have more kitty litter tubes, think I will plant some in there, and some apart.

I even bleached my scissors between plants

At this point, I don't think it matters what I do, something will either work, or won't.; At this point, I will probably lose the plant anyways, so I might as well keep trying things ~Jan

Clipping the affected foliage back is what I did to begin with.
First, the scape yellowed and died, then it started on the foliage,
yellowing from the top down and in the center. This was a nice
clump that had increased very well from last year.

I checked for vole or mole tunnels. Wasn't that. The crown was
firm and no indication of rot nor any odor. I sniffed every inch of it
when I dug it up. I also gently spread the fans to look for any type
of insect or disease. Nothing. This has me completely puzzled.

It looked like yours Jan to begin with. Now it looks like this. As
you can see, the middle is still yellowing from the top down.
The outer foliage on the fans have grown taller from where they
were clipped. So at least there is a sign of active growth.
