Arn't they beautiful, I love the color on those. I got two liners spring before last and they are already a foot wide.

That IS a pretty one! I am just realizing that I'll need to be careful about the finished size. I've seen a few that I'd love to get, and then I realize how HUGE they'll be and decide to pass. I thought several of the ones I got were big, until I started browsing for more.

I'm going to have to stop somewhere with my plants! I said last time I got some plumeria I would stop now and enjoy what I have, but then this ad showed up and couldn't say NO. Rolling my eyes.

Some take a very long time to get to the mature size, as much as 8 years and also some grow real slow, also you can control the growth by dividing them. This way you can have whatever Hosta you want and even keep them as long as you want by controlling the growth. I have a lot of giants and I do not worry about them. When I do divide them, I will trade the division for something else I do not have. Seems like a win,win situation. As long as you are able to divide them, I mean. Green Grin!
If you like Stained Glass you would probably like Guacamole, it's also sun-tolerant and gets about 24 inches wide. Thumb of 2012-06-30/virginiarose/e33f6a

I know what you mean, I said that about five times. The only reason I am finished with the spring shopping now, is because I already started on the fall shopping. Rolling on the floor laughing

Rolling on the floor laughing I too have started looking to fall... didn't realize but that's probably what slowed the growth of the pot Ghetto for the moment!

I have two hostas in the front that I've had for years and want to divide to put some in the back. Should I wait until Fall to divide, do it as soon as possible, or wait until next spring? (not sure if I have the patience for that, but I AM thinking I should let them bloom so I can possibly ID them... no records of what the heck I planted 15 years ago!)

Yes, wait till fall and let them bloom so, it will help with the id. Wow 15 years! Are they huge? I have a great article about dividing Hostas and its for pots or ground Hostas. Read the last three paragraphs and it will encourage you.

Thanks Susan, that is an excellent link, looked around on the site some too!

My couple of hostas are pretty large, though they're getting too much sun and not enough attention so probably smaller than they could be. I'd originally planted 3 different ones, and a month or so ago I decided I'd better not wait on dividing one of them, if it was still there! Its a lime/yellow colored small one something like Lemon-lime that gets buried every year by the foliage of the other two. Much to my surprise, it was still there and happy though completely covered. Not only was it there, but it consisted of LOTS of little separate pieces, so I was able to divide it 5 ways easily! I have a feeling a knife is going to be involved with dividing the other two Sad Glad to wait until fall though. The article says August... but I'm guessing maybe that's August in a cooler climate? Sept. is still part of summer around here.

A couple of really big hostas makes quite a statement, though, Kelly, then you can add medium ones around it, and some smaller ones in the front.

Have you seen Empress Wu?

People visiting that don't know that one will wonder how you grew your hostas so large. I guess there are larger ones coming down the pike, too, Susan would know more. She's our resident hosta expert on this forum.

Wow, amazing! Not sure I'm up for one that big... mine might be called small in comparison! Have them in a 3' wide bed along our front walkway at the moment.

Thanks for the compliment PollyK, don't know about being an expert but I do love them. I really like a variety and if I had to choose between IW or three others I would choose three others. That's just me. Green Grin!

Kelly, I was thinking the same thing, when he says August what zone is he talking about. I thought maybe he was referring to fall and for me that might be September or October. If it ever cools off right?

I got my first Irises in the mail today from Hornbaker Gardens, I ordered a Thunderbolt Hosta from them a month ago and noticed they had Irises and ordered two of those as well. BEAUTIFUL VISION and HARVEST OF MEMORIES.
Polly do you have either of these?
