I honestly think ALL flowers are beautiful planned or not.
At my old house someone asked me what theme my garden was. I had no clue we were supposed to garden that way.
I sid "Random Perennial" Stuck to it ever since.

I run out of room, stick stuff here and there. Try to keep things straight in my mind with labels, but that doesn't always work either. I will say this time of year is a necessity for my soul.

I ran amuck with lilies 2 years ago when I found out they didnt have to be planted in a row and would grow up thru other plants like hostas and phlox.
My grandmother grew Regals and I loved them.

I love my memories of my grandparents and their garden too. My grandfather loved iris and I have some from their home from many years ago now. I wish I could grow them like he did. And I often wish they could see what I have done with lilies. I think they would think it was neat, as they never did any hybridizing.

Lilies are great. They can be tucked in anywhere. Can we ever say there is not enough room for another lily? Because if we did (well, we would be crazy Hilarious! ), it would not be true. All it would take is one of us from here to come over to your house and find a place! My motto is there is always room for another lilium.

Regals are beautiful, and with what a hefty fragrance! What a great memory to have JoAnn.

Lilies tend to open in the morning, so I try to be out there at or soon after daybreak to catch them before the bees do. For me, it's important to have clean pollinations without any possibility of contamination by flyby visitors. This way, too, the pollen is usually not ripe and protecting the stigma from unwanted pollinators is a lot easier. Usually, I will do the actual cross the next morning or day. Stigmas are not receptive when the flower first opens, and pollen is always ripe before the stigma is receptive.

Evan, in response to your query, I think what you're referring to is an errant petal from Kentucky.

Yah, I Am! I have a 110 foot high Cottonwood in the back with a 23/24 foot diameter at 6 ft off the ground. Its main runs about 60 feet straight up before it trunks out. I'm planning on taking it down soon and asked around about Totum pole work. Problem is, Cottonwood is so soft it wouldn't last and not worth the cost. But I still like the idea. Well, off I go now on my picture taking run.

Before we took down the last of the diseased scotspins.I thought of a sculpture of a Crane with head lifted.Kids voted me down.
The first of the pines to come down left a stump I put a planter on 5 years ago. SIL works south of the city in the ski area, lots of woods and lumber people. He bought the bear from a guy who displayed it in his lawn.It was a crismiss present for DD. I wasnt thrilled as I have a " fine art" degree but we ll live in this house so I said nothing. SIL was so proud. Over the years I have grown to love the bear.
Its goofy in winter but when the poppies and lilies grow and bloom around her and her cub.Its enchanting and grows on me.

I've had enough oddities this year so thought I'd share a nice one. Here's a sky-scraping hollyhock and its humongous leaves. I didn't plant it ~ maybe it was a 'bird donation'...?

Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

Jo Ann, love your lilies and rose campion. Very very nice. Smiling I probably wouldn't have wanted a bear in my garden either, but, I can see where it would grow on you. About five years ago around my birthday a Pink Flamingo statue showed up in my gardens. I have always detested Pink Flamingos... I moved it over closer to the garden shed with thoughts of just putting it away or re-gifting it to the culprits that gave it to me to begin with. Well, I didn't get to it right away and as bad as it was during the day, that night I looked out and the damn thing was lit up. I laughed so hard I about cried. Smiling It, however, got put away for the winter and really never made it out of the shed after that. I just might have to dig it out and make it the traveling Flamingo.. Smiling LOL

Moby, love that Awesome. Mine is about to bloom too!! Woo Hoo!!
