What a sad thread! And so sorry about your long list of losses, Rob. I remember you posting about them being flooded. Sad

I lost: Siberian 'So Van Gogh', TBs 'That's All Folks' and 'Adoree'

I have 5 or 6 TBs and one SDB that are currently in hospital row, and could still go either way.

Rob, that's a lot. It sucks. Had it happen too, and I almost didn't continue growing them. Hope the ones that were under water survive. Natural springs can be neat, but not in the iris beds.

Rob such a challenge for you, from drought to flood, from deer to turkeys and moles. I have found only 3 of my new ones that died, Zoltar, Fred and Ginger, and All too Exciting.

Rob, I think some Louisiana iris might love that area. I have an area that also floods due to the neighbor's sump pump overflow added to our own share of rain. I've planted LAs in that area and they love it! Made the mistake of planting an extra rhizome of Mary Frances in that area, and she died. but my clump of LA iris "Red Velvet Elvis" in that area is now 3 feet across.

Sorry about the losses, especially Rob as you lost so many and also Evelyn and of course everyone else that lost some. I know Leslie had a lot of losses too. Sad

The winter here has overall been very kind, but I did lose a few of the medians I planted early September, most likely because they never rooted properly.

Otherwise, there is nothing except 'Dark Energy' that looks particularly worrisome. Lost a few fans to rot here and there and a few that has simply dried up, but compared to last year I'm very happy.

Out of the 27 I planted last year, only Thai Orange didn't make it but it's nowhere to be found so I imagine a critter has something to do with that. I'm just thrilled that they survived our brutal winter. Hurray!

I think this lost list is current, but there are still several more that I'm keeping an eye on (that aren't listed here). In their weakened condition, I don't know if they'll make it through our Summer heat. So I'll pot them up and do what I can. So this list could keep growing, but I hope it stops here. Crossing Fingers!

The ones marked "***Name" are the ones I want to replace. The others I either have a backup of, or I'm letting Mother Nature cull them for me.

Why do you think you lost so many? I would be devastated! If you have a start of Bertha Brownley, I would be interested in getting one for my memorial garde. It was my great grandmothers name. Or you might know who sells it; I've had no luck so far.

Rolling on the floor laughing Mine rarely last more than two years, and recently buy, bloom, die. Rolling on the floor laughing

I bought a cluster from Beck's last year, and now am waiting to see what survived.
The other half planted them, then I replanted them more the way they should be,so losses will not be a surprise but survivors will be.
Either way I may dig up the whole garden, partly to redo paver stones, that should have been done when the garden was dug up two years ago, that are part of a decoration.
There was not an ice-cap on that garden this year, as there is more often than not, which I am sure causes problems, so I am expecting a better survival rate than I was when I planted.

Arlyn ~ I know what you mean. Crossing Fingers! I was hoping the same thing on some that had a tiny bit of green. But you never know until the end of the season as some are late and look awful until they are about to shoot up a stalk.

Good idea: Because I had 3 emerge a month after they normally show up!!!

my losses, in the past, were mostly due to winter fungal issues, but ive won that battle, with alot of research and some helpful note comparing with Mike Sutton, of Suttons Iris.
Just a few morgue-enders this year --- nothing that cant be replaced.
With my health issues last summer and fall, i very nearly became a morgue-ender myself. My increase is good, and id like to make up for missed return trades this year. I feel very badly about about a few of my onesided trades, very badly indeed.

I tip my hat to you.

But seriously, to what did you loose them? Rain, rot, dryness or they just aren't long lived?

Timothy ~ Thank you for getting well and taking care of your health! The irises can wait. We were really wondering if you did pass away, but we are happy that you didn't. And thanks for coming back to the forum. Hurray!
