On one or two of my recently ordered plants from H & R the name is listed
C. Luddenammia x sib
this is crossed with another sibling from the same batch of babies?
wouldn't it just come out the same?
Isn't this incestuous?

Very. I think when they do this they are crossing 2 especially nice seedlings to make the desirable qualities even more consistent. I'll let Ursula wade in here....

Looking at a flowering population of C. luedemanniana, I could just imagine a selection of C. luedemanniana 'Gorgeous' x C. luedemanniana 'Wonderful' ( I made up the names) /crossing 2 particular pretty clones of luedemanniana to bring out some nice features.

I just noticed this today, is it a virus on my Cym.? It is on both the top and bottom of the leaves
it does not rub off, and it seems to be moving quickly, I don't remember this last week.
Thumb of 2011-03-06/sugarcane/2b18a3 Thumb of 2011-03-06/sugarcane/c87902

top of leaf and bottom of leaf
It is Cym. Chen's Ruby 'Golden Tiger' and I haven't repotted it or used any infected pruners etc. on it.
I got it in the fall, I deep water it once a week, it's in a fast draining mix. The only changes are it is in
the sunroom where All my orchids lived prior to the greenhouse, it had been heated and now it's not
so the night time temps have been in the low 40's.
Thumb of 2011-03-06/sugarcane/939aab
Here's the whole plant ,you can see how it starts on the new foliage. I hope it's not a virus...I'de just
be sick if it had to go in the trash. Sad

To me it looks more like some extra sun? Something mechanically.

My leaves dry up on cyms for lots of reasons. Sun, too little water, too much water, too this, too that. They don't like big changes at all. They bud blast easily and do like it cool or slow transitions from cool. As long as I get new growth I don't care. In any case, it doesn't look like virus to me.

Well, that's good news!
Kathy didn't you say that you grew yours in full sun during the summer? These have been getting
only 4-6 hours, and they have been in the same exact spot for at least 6 months..they came with
new growth about 3-4 inches high but have not grown any since I got them, so I guess they are just
sulking, missing Hawaii or something. But thanks for ruling out virus I tip my hat to you.

How many do you have? They would love to be outside if it's 40-50 degrees out at night. Mine go out on June 1 and stay out till frost. Until then they get north light in the cool room as the days get longer. Now Chen's Ruby is supposed to be temp tolerant but I grew mine cool inside in winter (till it looked bad last year and I sent it to nurse Maypop in FL).

I've only got 4, I'm waiting to see if I can keep them alive before I go crazy shopping!
Our weather is really unpredictable lately, this week we are expecting 34,31,35,49,40,and 37 night time temps.
I will move the plants to a less sunny location and see if that helps, these 30 degree nights are still too cold to
put them outside ...right?

Not in fall but probably too much of a gap from the temps inside now.

Lindsey, just remember that your sun is a bit stronger than Kathy's is. Things that get full sun for Kathy and Ursula would burn to a crisp here. Mine do best with morning sun, or late afternoon sun,... unless you're within spitten distance of the ocean.
