More -
'Sara' - new 2006. Sara is the name of my younger daughter. Good thing I like this hosta, but it has turned out to be quite a lot larger than what it was registered as.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/86a4a6

'Stand By Me' - new 2012. This is a lot like 'Touch of Class' (see below), except maybe a little flatter mound. It's in the same family of hostas.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/fde673

'Stiletto' - new 2009. A gift in 2009 in a styrofoam coffee cup. I've never divided this one but suspect it would make a good border plant.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/59ea4b

'Summer Breeze' - new 2003. One of my earlier hostas and the first one that was recommended to me by my hosta nursery owner. But mine has never grown as large as I thought it might.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/b61a3f

'Summer Music' - new 2005. This one is the parent of 'Summer Breeze' (above) and has actually spawned a large family of well-known sports. (Check it out on myhostas.be ).
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/ffa65b

'Surfer Girl' - new 2018. This is a very enthusiastic mini hosta that I've always had in a pot, but which I think would do well in the garden.

'Tears of Joy' - new 2010. This is a really peculiar little hosta with tiny folded leaves and when it blooms, the flowers have no petals. It also grows well and I think it could do well in the garden.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/eb8b7f

'Teaspoon' - new 2008. This one seems to like this space and seems to stay under control. This is classed as a small hosta, but that doesn't apply to the mound size and if it really likes the conditions it can form a large mound faster than you would like it to. But the mound, even when large is nice and tiny and the leaves are cute.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/a76ba0

'Tick Tock' - new 2006. This one is another that can easily form a thick mat. Good groundcover.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/487fa4

'Tickle Me Pink' - new September 2014. Love this one. The bottom of the petioles are red. Late in August it begins to glow with the type of yellow 'Fire Island' has in early spring. And there is usually a slight pinkish tinge to the long tips of the leaves. It has a striking bloom late in the season and is fertile. I've got three nice seedlings from it.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/20d69a

'Touch of Class' - new 2004. Compare to 'Stand By Me' in the post above. They are related and quite similar, though I think this one may be a bit larger.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/1fc39d

'Twist of Lime' - new 2008. A fast-growing mini which is easy to divide and grows fast making good border plant.

'Undulata Albomarginata' - new '90s. My earliest hostas. Used to have 4 clumps of them and thought they were entwined with the Linden tree roots forever, but I managed to dig one out and divide it up last year. They are, of course, eternally popular with those who don't really know about the newer varieties of hostas.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/d9fc63

'Undulata Albomarginata'? I suspect that when I dug out some of the adjacent plant that a tiny bit of crown was left behind. For years I've seen this extremely tiny plant that I would have classified as a seedling except that UA is sterile. This year it's quite a lot bigger.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/a1f29d

'Wheee!' - new 2012. LOVE the twisted, twirled leaves of this one. It's simply unlike anything else in the garden.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/356524

'Whirlwind' - new before 2000. One of my earliest hostas. I divided it a few years back because my original one was so small - next to the Linden tree. This one is east of my house foundation and gets morning sun and is growing a lot faster than the original. At times, it also looks quite a lot different.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/d14cf8

'White Christmas' - new 2006. I got lucky with the placement for this one. I've never moved it or divided it and it seems to be far enough from the oak tree to still be happy with the quantity of soil it has.
Thumb of 2020-06-20/ViolaAnn/882e28

'X-rated' - new 2007. I like this little one but can't seem to get it to form a nice mound.

Bob,

I love the raised bed! It looks like it's filling in. Your gardens are beautiful! You have a nice hosta collection. I know you have a nice collection heuchera, too. Have you posted them on the heuchera forum?

Rose I still have a decent amount of Heuchera but have had quite a few loses over the past 2 Winters and do need to get some more pictures, only posted a few. Have been getting a bit more into Podophyllum over the past couple of years and more into the Hosta. I do have quite a few but most I have no idea what they are. Many came from bare root special buys wanting to fill in the area under the Hemlock.

Is it something about the newer varieties of Heuchera that they aren't as hardy? I didn't lose the ones I bought last year and the year before, but they are so tiny that I might as well have done so.

I really feel they are lacking hardiness. They need to much coddling for my climate. I find the same to be true of most of the newer echinacea varieties as well. I have tried several of both and been thoroughly disappointed.

I do lose more heuchera than I do hosta. I usually give them 2 growing seasons to behave. I have 2 Carnival series that have done well. Carnival Watermelon and Carnival Black Olive. I like the splash of color that they add to my shade gardens, so I keep trying different varieties.

I've had great luck with Stainless Steel, and an older variety. Forever purple is holding its own. Rarely lose a hosta, Flamenco Mouse decided to not show this year.

Gary I totally agree. If I did not like the color leaves so much I would have given up on Herc. I finally figured out a way to keep them alive when I was ready to not waste another dime on them.

Foliage is my thing because flowers are fleeting but a garden can be beautiful all season with beautiful foliage, I use flowers as temp compliment to my foliage.
