Beautiful pics of a beautiful flower Joseph. I'm going to have to get that one again from FBTS.

Joseph can you say more about size of container, soil? Do you feed them? How many plants per container? Do shorter ones do better than taller? Those flowers are worth waiting for and I'm assuming will keep on til frost...

My 'Skyscraper' series are doing fine so far....heat index of 100+ for next seven days will be a test for them (and me, their waterer!) Glad they (like me) like the shade!

I use a well-draining potting medium in a pot that will accommodate the size of the plant. For the Salvia oxyphora and Salvia rubescens subspecies dolichothrix, I used the deepest pots I had because I was aware the plants became gigantic. I give aerated worm castings tea weekly. I give an organic fertilizer every other week alternating with seaweed solution.

Does that answer your questions?

The Salvia rubescens subspecies dolichothrix flower stem is extending, which is very exciting. I like the fine hairs on it.

Here's a couple photos showing the container.

I don't know all the answers, and am grateful to others who provided advice to me.

Joseph, those buds are really neat!

@FBTS thanks! I have been reading on your site. Can you say more about the Skyscraper series "blooming profusely in the shade"?

Basically I wanted to find out Joseph's preferred methods because he lives in much the same conditions as I do (if that makes sense),

@FBTS Kermit,

Thank you for the link of container gardening. I'll have to read it when I've more time, as I plant a lot of containers each year. I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

Everything from full shade to partial shade. Optimal seems to be about 60%. These do not appreciate hot sun. They can grow rather large in smallish containers as well.

Hurray! Thanks, that's about exactly as I have them! The ones I transplanted to larger containers are now smaller than ones still in smaller original pots....but they all seem happy as are the bugs visiting them!

The deep red flowers of Salvia rubescens subspecies dolichothrix finally arrived!

They are not as large as I thought they would be, since the rest of the plant is massive.

That's wonderful Joseph. I'm happy for you and I'm sure the hummingbirds are too. Are you having to water it a lot during each week?

Thanks Marilyn. As Kermit advised, I give the soil holding the plants a gallon of water almost every night.
