Yellow flag iris. Very hardy and fast growing. I used to have a clump and every year I would tear out 9/10ths of it to keep it from getting out of control. I was rather fond of it, but eventually I disposed of it all because it was too much work to maintain. It was such a reliable bloomer, though, and I miss it sometimes.

Be aware that it's considered a noxious weed in some states.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Detective Erika is back in bloom. This tropical/hardy cross behaved like any other hardy last winter, but that color...

I always liked the unique look of night bloomers, but they don't bloom as long here because of water temperatures.

They can be finicky. They need even more full sun per day than day bloomers. I guess they store it for night time use LOL

I remember being surprised by the high numbers of pollinators around lotus. Just out of curiousity I googled lotus honey and sure enough, it exists.

Need more pretty pictures here. I don't have enough pond space for all of the flowers I want so I need to live vicariously though your pictures. Big Grin

Today I placed an order for three new waterlilies for our pond in France -

Perry's Red Star http://latour-marliac.com/fr/r... I think this one is well known even though there is no DB photo; it's supposed to be easy to grow and to bloom well.

Wanvisa http://latour-marliac.com/fr/n... From Thailand, I chose this one because of the interesting patterning on the petals.

Siam Purple 2 http://latour-marliac.com/fr/v... This one is a cross between a tropical and a hardy waterlily and is said to be hardy to -15 C (5 Fahrenheit), again from a breeder in Thailand. I'm quite excited to grow it and see if it survives; in the past I've lost several tropical waterlilies to the cold.

I'll nip out (mega heatwave here at the moment) to see if I can get a photo of the (less fancy) waterlilies we have already.

I had Wanvisa, it is an awesome flower, the colors are amazing and every flower is a bit different. I have not grown the others but I love all the introductions from Perry's.
