Other naming rules: You have to check the AHS database and make sure your proposed name isn't already taken or too close to one that's already used. If you name for a person you must try to get their permission or from their family if reasonable. You can't use the names of other plants.

OK, so why not give us a shot at it. I'm not that great with names either, but sometimes something will just pop into someone's thoughts that might really strike a chord with you. When you post the picture of the daylily at the top you could give us some direction by specifying what type of name you'd like -- maybe something serene, or catchy, or funny, no limits, whatever... And think of what fun we'll all have! I remember back when TroubleX2 (April) and I were teasing each other back and forth and just throwing out all kinds of crazy names, and I threw out "Lillian's Clockwork Orange" -- and Fred and Kathleen apparently liked it because that's what they named another one. You just never know where these things will go, and we were totally enjoying ourselves -- until DG shut us down...

I think there should be a reward, but it would be given next season.
I was given a different type of bonus this year with some purchased
flowers, a thing called rust. Winter will kill it here, so that is the why
for next season. Of course, I do have seeds. They should be okay,
right?

Maybe you can just edit and then copy everything you put in this last post and paste it into a new thread called "Mistyfog's Naming Contest" or something. That way we'll all easily be able to find it, especially in looking back to this contest in the future.

Oh yes, and can you put a closing date and time for the contest? Fred usually gave us about a week and posted at what hour it would officially stop.

I know you can't register one with the name ending in another flower's name, for example, I couldn't register one called Lydia Rose, so I had to add something to the end and made it Lydia Rose's Secret.

I'll wait for an answer from Leslie before I start a new thread.

Thanks Cindy for the info. I read the registration rules back during the winter, and
forgot a bunch of it. Need to refresh my memory. With the still ongoing construction,
the daylilies needing extra care due to weather and other problems, I must admit
that most days I am pressed for time, and I have neglected many things.

You guys are great, you just amaze me with all the info, humor, and experience.

I have read through the AHS registration rules. My goodness, that's a lot of
rules. I don't remember it being that long when I read it last winter.

Here's a thought. Would you guys be interested in a contest for GARDEN names,
for a reward of seeds from this years' crosses? I am still collecting pods, some are
in the drying process, and some in the fridge.

Sorry Shirlee, I was asking you. I think the contests are for ones that are about to be registered. Someone could see the name and use it by mistake, forgetting where they'd seen it or the plant might not make eval. and you wouldn't get to use the name.
