We've seen several turtles and frogs this year. Evidently, the snakes
went on vacation since turtles and frogs are their favorite snack.

I've never seen a frog or turtle in my yard, and only one snake about 10 years ago. It was a garter snake, so it was welcome to stay, but it moved on down the road. My Dad used to take me to catch garter snakes when I was a kid, and when we'd get home, there would be a jar on the porch, and the house would be locked up! Mom wasn't about to let us bring it inside! So, we'd always go to my Dad's sisters house, and I'd chase my cousins around with them. Nick and Matt where scared to death of snakes, and I took full advantage of that fact!

What I'd really like to get are some toads for the garden. They are excellent at keeping the slug population down, and I've got a bad problem with those.

I like having frogs around too, and the tree frogs are so pretty. We used to have
so many snakes, black, garter, etc., so there were no frogs in site for years. Glad
to get them back. Without the snakes we have too many field mice. Oh, well,
maybe mother nature will get it worked out.

Nope Shannon, can't imagine keeping them in the house for pets, especially that
big. Although we have had a couple get in the house only to be returned to the
outside.

Shannon, sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were talking
about snakes 40 ft long. Not familiar with the name Redear Sliders. *Blush*
I had to look it up. Those are beautiful turtles.

With that pointed nose, looks like it may be a snapping turtle. Definitely not a painted turtle.

Looks like a baby box turtle. Maybe three toe (?) They like the wooded area's and are tiny when hatched. Snappers
have a long tail and very rough shells and the back of the shell is jagged.

Very cute little one Lovey dubby

When we were in Oklahoma, there were turtles everywhere. I had every intention of bringing one home, until we found out that there is a turtle "season", like a hunting season for them! We weren't there during turtle hunting season, and I didn't want to take a chance on getting arrested for turtle poaching! I wasn't going to kill one, but I saw some really nice ones that I wanted to bring home with us. A good friend of mine had one as a pet, and I really loved that turtle! It liked to sit on her foot! She got it as a toddler, and it was about 30 years old when I saw it. It lived in the house in a dog crate with the door taken off, and never made a mess on the carpet. It even got along well with her dogs and cat! They all slept together during nap time! It was so cute!

It is a box turtle as far as I can tell.

Natalie, love that story. Didn't know they live so long. Amazing
isn't it?

Cindy, with Hubby carrying that turtle in his hands, and then me thinking
snapping turtle because of your post, well, I just had to look it up. Yikes,
thought I, snapping turtles here? Could that be?

I wouldn't want to work in the daylily beds with a snapping turtle on the
loose. The online pics look like Eastern Box Turtle.

Finally, a bloom.

This one is so much better in person. The contrast
is eye catching with the yellow green edge which
does not show up in the photo.
