It is indeed THE Lali, formerly known as begoniacrazii. She's going to Hawaii in a few days, poor thing, so she's in a rush. I hope she's setting up a begonias cubit. There's a conspicuous lack of one here.

Lali does enjoy Clematis, Evey, and she certainly will join your cubit. She, Sue, and I had fun visiting Chalk Hill Clematis before it closed. She has photos of it somewhere and she and Sue will have some great photos to add to your cultivar images forum. Actually, I have some too, but I'm in the middle of redoing my photo albums.

Quick, somebody think of a new forum title. We have 13 right now. Doesn't seem prudent to leave it that way.

I like that, Evey. I really enjoy debunking gardening myths, so that's a good suggestion.

Dana, our daughter is a history buff and we incorporated a lot of traditions in her wedding. (We played on the theme of the reception location, which was the old Louisiana Governor's Mansion.) All of her flowers were selected for their meanings.

I created placards that were placed around the mansion that told of the special meanings behind different aspects of the ceremony and reception. Here's what was written on the placard by her wedding bouquet:

Our time has just begun,
But in a previous time...

Flowers communicated the thoughts and feelings of the sender just like a letter. In keeping with the historical location for our reception, each flower or stem of greenery for Kate's bouquet was selected for it's Victorian meaning. In sending flowers gathered into tussie mussies, Victorian suitors hoped to convey their message to their love, through the flowers. White roses denote purity, unity and respect, while waxflower brings good luck for future riches. Ivy represents fidelity, and fern conveys sincerity and confidence. Finally, myrtle communicates marital bliss, passion and joy.

So good to see everybody here I knew on the other place and some new ones to boot! Since I'm new at everything, I'll just sit back and go where the links take me, adding when I feel I can contribute and keeping my mouth shut otherwise!

Thanks for the invite, Zuzu!

Hi, Judy. I recognize you from DG and glad you found us here. Aren't roses wonderful?

Hello from the great State of Maine
zuzu,
I am not sure where I suppose to write this but I was thinking about the forum called ROSE PARADE.

Could we please have separate threads i.e.ORG's,FL,GF,HT and so forth.Since we all have different first loves and secondly some roses do much better in one region as the next depending where we live.
I have seen threads on DG with JUST David Austin roses or colors.
I think it would be GREAT just to go to one particular thread when we need some eye candy or to add to our never ending wishl ists. What do you think?
Enjoy your Passion for Gardening!
Take Care and stay safe!

Hi, Brigitte --

In the welcome thread for the Growing Roses Forum I suggested that people start threads for the different classes of roses in that section, but you're absolutely right: Rose Parades would be a much better place for this.

We probably also need a new forum just for daily chat and photos. We can't keep talking in the Welcome Forum forever.

On second thought, they'll get lost in rose parades once we start posting rose parades, so let's leave the threads on the different classes, colors, and hybridizers in the choosing roses forum.

Incidentally, I just opened a Test thread in the Miscellany forum. Good to have one in case you're testing your image-posting skills or special symbols, etc.

Did anyone notice that you can now add an image or change the image in the preview mode? That's something we never had in DG.

zuzu said:A few snags to work out here: I'm not sure how this thread got such a redundant name, but I must be responsible in some way.

My hope is that we forum members will be able to share our love of roses and all of their companion plants, enjoying each other's gardening tips and advice without any rude comments whatsoever.

I think that when you are at the top of this thread, click the blue 'manage' link in the upper right corner just above the post box and you should be able to edit the welcome welcome welcome text. Not positive, but I fiddled around with some yesterday (when I should have been getting ready to fly away to Kauai!!!) but I think I fixed some of mine.
