Yes, Indeed it has been hot. 100+ temps are not good for plants. I've been trying to keep them watered but there is sometimes still damage. Thumb of 2012-07-02/Ridesredmule/86f751
It is so bad to go out and see these plants burned like this from the wind and heat.
We have been having tree limbs break and crash to the ground. It is so dry here, and a lot of other places. I am collecting hay that the Long ears don't eat and put it around my brugs and hope it holds the moisture in.
I do still have some Beauties still blooming, so i did something -a little right.
Painted Lady is looking great.

Delta Dawn is heating but still alive. I believe I will cut off the burnt, stunted blooms....

Charleen,
You must still have high humidity because the size of the leaves hasn't gotten smaller. While it's not as hot and dry as it was last year, our lowish humidity levels translates into smaller leaves. Last year, it was so hot and dry that almost all of my Brugs went dormant. It was like winter all over again, but the loss rate was much higher. I lost over 75 Brugs last year alone. This year the leaves are smaller, but the biggest danger to my Brugs is still grasshoppers.

Except for a few charred tips, your Brugs appear to be in excellent condition. Would you be able to put up some temporary shading over the plants?

Thank you Dear. I will not worry so much now. Did you ever get your brugs re placed?
You know as we get old we get this thing call CRC....Can't remember crap. If You see something, please let me know.
The leaves are beautiful and large. But just this last week I have had this damage. So I have been truly blessed.
Would you cit off the bad blooms??? and the damaged leaves/stalk?

They have "sails" made of shade cloth at our Home Depot for very little money. Large triangular pieces with grommets sewn in the corners. Might be worth the investment, since it is so early in the summer, and there's more heat to look forward to, sadly.

If you can get some bamboo poles or something to hold it up with, that might provide a lot of welcome relief for your brugs.

I have lost my Autumn Treasure. I mulched them yesterday, then watered and they were looking better by afternoon. I did have some gorgeous blooms last night. The air was beautiful.. I will get you pictures. So glad I planted them closer to shade....

lovelt Charleen... yes the heat is all over them..things are just getting going with a 1/2 dozen blooms opened on many of the,.. with some yet to set buds just yet...
it's 98 *F here now... so they are feeling the heat.. but with the heat.. there seems to be a blossoming of the spyder mites... got to wait till evening to give them all a bixture of my posion cocktail..[ a bunck of killers mixed up together ]
it is hot for them @ 98*... but the cooling breeze I feel blowing against me.. is another thing for the plants sitting down low on the roof... the breeze there is picking up the roof temperatures and flooding the plants with it's heat... as you can see this air is hitting the plants with... well... i'd say 150*F air.. much like a convection oven.. I water as much for the moisture.. as to cool the roots with some 60* temperatures...

afraid our 110 temps are proving too much for my potted brugs, they are all simply curling up and dying. I took Miss Doris into the house in hopes of saving her.

Charleen I feel sorry for the farmers in our area, they are plowing under the corn, and I am sure the beans will be next.
I don't know about the rest of you but, look around at all the devastation going on, Fires, Floods, Drought, burning up Temps.I am convinced that GOD is making a statement. he was taken out of the schools, denied to be recognized in all things, we need to put God back where he belongs.

Vereonica ..I was thinking of you today...face to face with a gigantic locust eating something here at mothers... we haven't the bunch you had... but their sizze and strength was astounding... they seem to be leaving the brugs that are returning from their roots alone.. they do seem to be fit here...nice .. much like Charleems but without the wilt at all... they have been wet and hot.. after the early spring where they were real dry.. mother @ age 90 on Saturday.. is out picking millions of figs off a couple of trees..all be it about as big as the house.. a few catapillars ..Locusts.. japanese beatles... and I got a black widdow aganst the house with feet as far apart as across my fist ... it makes the plagues of the city seem soft and sweet...
the figs.. weakest brug on the left . they haven't burnt at all....I guess they had been shaded with the piles of morning glories covering them.. but I've cut the MG's away.. Thumb of 2012-08-02/GordonHawk/e283de
