Hi, my name is Cameron. A friend introduced me to plumerias last year by sending me some seeds. I was only successful a couple of times, and then she told me about another method and sent me more seeds. I floated the seeds in packing peanuts set on water with a little peroxide, and after 3 days practically all the seeds had roots. This time I was very successful, only losing 1 seed, but now I have 58 seedlings plus a NoId that I've had for 3 years(hasn't bloomed) and a cutting I received from the same friend. It was from a tree in her neighborhood but she isn't sure which cultivar it is. So far I've had it for a couple of weeks with sign of rot. I'm hoping it will develop roots soon. I had to place netting over my seedlings because grasshoppers had eaten two already, the netting seems to be working.

Here is my "Collection"

Thank you Hetty and Michael. This is a really great site. I actually had one grasshopper sneak into the netting but I added more netting and my seedlings haven't been touched since. Its kind of unattractive but I have to have it up until the seedlings develop thicker trunks. I'm afraid to touch the grasshoppers, I had one fly on my face and I nearly had a heart attack lol. I have 1 hoya, and aloe plant. I have 20 epi cactus which have become a favorite of mine next to plumerias. I also grow dragon fruit, bananas, loquats, pomegranates, several houseplants, and I have been starting a drought tolerant garden too.

Welcome!

How do you overwinter your plants? A close friend lives in Plano and she lost a good sized Sago I'd given her even though it was in her unheated garage during cold spells.

I only have one plumeria that was in ground and almost lost in that ghastly freeze a couple of winter ago but I've gotten the plumeria itch just looking at the plants posted here.

These plumeria people are really enablers for plant addicts Hilarious!

I huddle all of my plants in front of 2 south facing windows. My dining room and den are crowded with plants during winter, so I'm always so relieved to put them outside once it warms up. Some lost a lot of growth and I had to deal with white flies all over my plants, but as soon as I put them outside during spring they do wonderful the rest of the year. Most of my windows are on the north side of my house so I have to crowd my plants in front of the 2 windows. I did lose a banana plant 3 years ago because there wasn't enough light. My plumeria didn't mind the low light, I just let all of the leaves fall off and water it once every 3 weeks.

That's terrible that you lost your whole collection. That's funny that she called it the prostitute plant lol. I always call it queen of the night. I started my epi collection last year. First I started with epiphyllum oxypetalum that a friend gave me in a trade, then I joined an epi group and a member sent me a few different cuttings. I lost my German Empress cuttings and a few others. Right now I have Alter Ego, one called 'Shingleton' I couldn't find it online, but the guy that gave me the cutting got it from Germany and that's what it was called. He said it looks similar to epiphyllum oxypetalum only fuller. I also have a NoID red, Rose Queen, and a NoID variety that looks similar to Tyrolean, but with a little more orange. Last week I got some cuttings of Three Oranges, Diva, Marilyn Monroe, Stormy Weather, Coral Dance and Chiba's Lovely Dawn. I'm hoping they root since its been very hot and humid here.
