i have gang potted my seedlings some are 6 months old have a 2 gal pot and they are 5 in tall as soon as i can i have to separate them. Now dont be worried if they dont take off right away. there roots are very tender and if they break DONT worries they will grow back. I have some that where shipped to me and the root systems mostly get destroyed and 90% came back it just took time to form new roots.

so with this said when you step up from 4 in pot to a gal pot the roots will grow faster then the top and then POW they will jump very fast. Just like to make sure when we tell people re pot and watch them grow you are not disappointment in a few weeks when you see little growth it will happen and just do as you have been with taking care of them. if you have seedlings 4-6 in tall you have been raising them right or they would have wilted and died or dampened off

great job and you will not regret re potting.

so hey lets have a few pictures...

good luck and have fun!!

Thanks Mike. I got them repotted this afternoon. I couldn't believe the root systems on some of them. I had one that I had in a clay pot and when I removed it, several of the roots were stuck to the pot. Its wilting a little right now, but I have all my newly potted seedlings in bright shade until they get established. I'll probably feed them a very weak solution of liquid seaweed. Here is a picture of them

Looks good, and a weak solution of seaweed sounds like just the ticket! Keep us posted.

Thanks Hetty. I'll keep everyone updated. I accidentally stepped on one of my newly sprouted seedlings when I was moving the netting around. Some the seedlings had grown through the net and when I removed it, one flew out of the soil and I stepped on it. The top was ruined but hopefully it will still sprout leaves. I was so upset because I didn't notice the seedling until it was too late.

Cameron, I only have two plumies, but I've had one of them 4-5 years. After it got too big for my windows, I started just putting it in the garage. Then I don't bother it again until I bring it out in spring. It does fine like that (even that ccccccold winter in 2010-2011). Some of my other plants don't like it so much, but my inside spaces are filled with things that require 55+ temps.

Hi Pattie, I lived in Garland a few years ago. I wish I had a garage to store some of my tropical plants in. I did store a banana plant in a friends garage and even though the temperature in the garage dropped into the lower 30s the banana still made it.
