I don't have Facebook either. From what I was able to see, DM have two very toothy seedlings. The big yellow one is something else.

The "There Might be Stripes" 5-seed packet is now at $205. Excellent!

I thought this might be a record for 5 seeds, but only for the last couple of years. Apparently 2017 was a wild year of flagrant bidding on the LA, with several offerings, including one for CP X Undefinable (or vice versa) exceeding the $200 mark.

Is anybody keeping stats on the highest $$ daylily of all time, like they do with racehorses? And I know it is already determined to be Stella d'Oro, but excluding farmed-as-a-crop-for-landscapers cultivars, I am curious about the top blooms. Rolling my eyes.

Sue,

$205.00 is a record for me, topping that $200.00 for UNDEFINABLE X CLOWN PANTS a few years back. I am sure Rich or Ruby has had higher ones, but I'm okay with $205.00. Rolling on the floor laughing

I couldn't be more grateful or surprised. I will have to give the world's best bonus, for sure!

$200 is my tops for Karol Emmerich's Pray Without Ceasing this spring. Whistling D'Oh! And I used to think $25 was a ridiculous price to pay Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing *Blush*

Finally got my Driver lic reinstated & I have heard of an lady who sells Lilies, Hopefully hybrids day lily's also, If you all like, come next spring and I actually make the trip to see her place of business, Maybe I can take pic's & find out what she actually has or more simply, give a small run down on it and her biz contact info, If she's okay with that. In case she might have something your interested in. Believe we're in either zone 7 or 8, Actually maybe on or near the borderline in between those two zones here in N. Georgia. Either way, If I can, I'll likely mention something about it anyways. Hilarious! She could be sign up on Garden .org anyways

Perhaps this is a naive question for you who are experienced to answer. Would someone spend such big bucks for a daylily because of its breeding potential, hopes that the plant will be a good increaser and there will be lots of increase to sell, or both?

All of the above, Paul....plus the scarcity. If you really love it and want to grow it, the plant will be in hybridizers' and seed sellers gardens for quite some time rather than in public sales gardens. People with an abundance of money do not mind spending big bucks on their hobby to have a rare plant.

Paul, Both. There are actually re-sellers who are in areas where rapid increase is easy. They buy to resell. Hybridizer buy for breeding purposes, but I can tell you this, back yard gardeners are giving prices for daylilies like I have never seen in my years of growing them.
We have one issue with giving high prices, our growing area is hard on plants and anything can die here. Also some will not bloom here.
