Another beautiful vase!

We should have a forum just for vases of flowers!

There is a forum titled Floral Design that is set up for just that. There has not been too much traffic on that forum, but it would be great if it became more active! Much of what I choose to plant in my garden depends on whether I can use them as cut flowers or not, and I would love to see what other people do with their flowers in arrangements.

I generally don't cut much unless they're flopping on neighbors, or I need some table arrangements for a get-together, but I do like seeing other gardeners' designs. Thumbs up

Thanks, Dianne. Smiling BTW, I really enjoy yours, they're always so creative!

Chelle - That is so sweet of you to say.

This is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the vase was stolen a few weeks afterwards.

Wow, pink Dogwood, that is a great idea. Hurray!

It took me several years of having a pink dogwood tree before I ever considered it as a potential cut flower. There was a time when I was really ambitious and my goal was to bring a new arrangement to work every week. I think it was during that time that I decided to try dogwood - most likely because there was not too much available that week. Or it could be that the dogwood was getting too tall, and after cutting the branches, I couldn't bear just to throw them away so decided to see if it will last in a vase. Big Grin

Beautiful dogwood in the vase! Have you tried forcing them, supposed to be easy to force.

I agree They're very beautiful!

I haven't tried that, but I've always wanted to. I think ours blooms so late that by the time it does, I'm heavily into seed planting and seedling care.

>>Questions on moving crocosmia:

1) I'm pretty sure that it's best done in the spring, but I rarely seem to get to it then; might I move it now, or as soon as the blooms are spent?

2) I have a bunch that are getting shaded out by an expanding group of evergreen trees, so I'm considering moving them out to the wildflower meadow. Can these survive a rainless summer (our norm), without supplementary water, while in full, all day long, sun?

Chelle, you should be able to move them soon, as soon as it cools down a little. Dig them up, wash off the corms and only use the top corms to replant.

Mine did really well with no additional watering this year, but they are in part shade, so I don't know. They're from S Africa originally, so I would think so. As with anything, though, I would think you would want to water them until they get established.

Have not tried forcing them before, but that is something that I can try this year for fun.

Thanks, Polly. Thumbs up

That's why I was thinking it might work now (or soon). It isn't completely dry out there anymore, since we have had some rain in the past few weeks, and we typically have a wet fall. I'm never sure that I'll be able to get water out there after the initial planting, but I bet that if I plant them out encircled by a ring of aged horse poo, they'll probably settle in pretty well.

Oh, yeah! I'm right there with the plants on waiting for cooler weather! Hilarious! I've been out *parasol gardening* today, and even with the mobile shade it's still much too hot!
