An issue with Prudential and not being able to get into account. Still cannot. When I asked if they were having issues with new system he reluctantly admitted they were but wanted me to try all these things hoping they would work. They did not work. Glare

Here's another one. I had to finish filling out paperwork for my new job, I-9, IDs, auto bank deposits, etc. when I accessed the new portal to finish, I had forgotten my password, so I checked the "forgot your password" sentence. I was sent a code, which didn't work. I tried this five times, and the system locked me out. I e mailed a lady in HR, SHE e mailed a computer lady, who sent me a temporary password, which didn't work. I e mailed HER and told her I was still locked out and she told me she was going home, someone else would have to help me tomorrow. (This was Thursday afternoon). Then my future boss called and asked me to e mail him my DL and Ss card, ok. I couldn't FIND my ss card. I said ok, I'll go get a replacement in the morning. (Friday). I found it and e mailed those to the boss. At 1:00 pm I tried to access the portal again because the 24 hour shut down was supposed to be over. Didn't work. I called the boss, then through numerous group e mails and conference calls, we finally reset my password, and I finished the paperwork. He complimented me on my patience. Of course I was patient, I needed this job!

Lynda good for you sticking with it. I went thru the same thing with codes being sent over and over and them not working and I had not forgotten my password but it was not being accepted. They invent systems that do not work. Angry

Well, Im unglued. I had my first trip to a social security office today to get a copy of my deacesed mothers 1099. This is something they wont make an appointment for. Went in, no one at desk except a security guard who is not there to help or answer questions, ok, figured out you sign in around the corner at a computer they call a kiosk. With all the persons who had to touch that computer screen, dont think with a virus on the loose, that there was a bottle of hand santitizer in the building. Aside the fact that we at there for almost 5 hours watching people come in and out and get a check for every kind of thing you can think of. One bit of humor was when a guy who had never worked a day in his life started yelling that the taxes we pay pay their salaries and he wants his check NOW. lol. Didnt even phase the security guard, all he cared about was if you took your phone out to play candy crush, check time, whatever, he was right up on you to put it away. So the guy went on and on and on. Finally got to the window and it took no more than 30 seconds. Really....no better way????

The good news about that is, the people with appointments were not waiting long. Seems like surely that is something they will make an appointment for.
It did make me wonder what it would be like if that was a doctors office.

I can understand about the SS office, and the revenue office. I never knew that government employees, state of federal, were decent people until I moved to a small town. I know this is a gripe thread, but the people at my local revenue and SS office couldn't be nicer, more helpful people. I never did have that in Little Rock!
Now for a gripe: sick and tired over all the time spent on the news about the corona virus, because the common flu kills a LOT more people ; in this country, and maybe around the world.

I think the problem is caused by the uncertainty of the actual risk of infection/severity, including death, because the Chinese numbers can't be trusted. So I've read it appears right now it may be more lethal than the flu, especially for high risk groups, but I have also read that people can be testing positive but completely without symptoms. So until there are more accurate numbers we are stuck listening to the worst case news people. We already have one case in the US that they can't determine how they were exposed. I do believe it will soon appear in higher numbers in the next few weeks.

The other difference is that there is a yearly vaccine for the flu, not perfect but it works for the most part. Flu has a death rate of 0.1% the current coronavirus has a death rate of 2-4%, massive difference! We can complain about the lack of transparency from China, but the question is how do you stop it at this point!

My hope is that people will somehow get the usa to kick back up with some drug production. Im far more afraid that every drug we take comes from china. When at the social security office yesterday, among many other odities, people there had on mask but nary a one had it over their nose. O lordy

Those are the numbers I've heard too. Do they calculate the percentage of fatalities from " if you get it then you have a 3% chance of death?"
Vaccine a year away but I'm hoping some of the antivirals they have rushed into clinical trials will prove effective.
My husband is glued to the news channels all day so I am on overload.....financial news also gloom and doom....

@gardenglory my husband reassures me that since we are invested in only a few stocks and we won't need to touch the money for hopefully 10+ years we just need to look and listen but not act. So although he has the tv on all day, he is going about his tasks and not on the phone with our son. If he did that ,then I would be worried.. Crossing Fingers!

As far as any information from the Chinese about this virus, I don't trust a word of it. Have Y'all heard that China and Russia are putting out posts on social media that blame the US for this virus? The posts say we created in a lab here and let it loose in China. This is how panic and hysteria and misinformation starts. Thinking

More likely it escaped from one of their labs. Glare

The only way it could be determined if it escaped from a lab would be from a forensic investigation which would include interviews, documents and swabbing of equipment.

I'm sorry, but I feel it's not at all helpful to repeat stories about the origin of the virus when it is based on no verified facts at all. Wouldn't matter anyway at this point since the virus is out there in the whole world and everybody just has to deal with it anyway. I'm more concerned with how to prevent the spread of the virus and the known info that scientists studying it have given.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

So right, Linda. It's here, now what do we do about it? Problem is, they keep correcting the previous information we were previously given, I watch the news every day, and have noted the reporting inconsistencies, which further adds to the confusion. Thumbs down
