So so we think at this point that winter has been cancelled? The long range forecast here shows no hint of cool weather returning. Since we have all this free time while self-quarantine to garden, I don;t want to get started too fast and have a surprise frost/freeze come along......

Ten day outlook here shows upper 80's and even to 90, so we're now in SUMMER here. Looks like a cool front the very end of the month, but still show's night temps in mid 60's here.

Some rain would be nice though.

Its 68F here right now LOL and the sun hasn't yet risen. I think we were 87 yesterday. And it looks like that for the rest of March. The next 'cold front' is only supposed to drop the daytime high to 81 on Sunday. My husband is already complaining (sigh....).

Freeze day is coming up on tuesday night. I am seeing temps on weather channel ranging from 28 to 32. I really hope its in the thirty s but the range of the reported temperature bothers me. It could go from an ok night to bad for my hibiscus. I was reading about predicted winters and they were saying it was going to be mild. Wondering if that is going to be a bad prediction? I am looking over all the tarps and covers i have. How is everyone preparing?

Last night the winds kept frost from happening, but tonight the winds won't be as strong and our forecast here is calling for patchy areas of frost from dawn to sunrise tomorrow morning, especially inland areas. I'd cover your plants of concern, even a beach umbrella can work for a tall hibiscus. If potted you can bring them in a covered area. My hibiscus and crotons, and coleus do okay with no cover, if no frost and temps not lower than 36 for too long, like an hour or two, but the temps you state will cause damage to the tips, so, covering would be wise. That said, mine have been through temps that low before, and even though they suffered frost damage, they all came back, none have ever died. Covering does help if is is a short time.

I was gone till 1pm. The plants that were hardest hit were my porterweeds. A few salvia are in pretty bad shape. I was surprised to see my pineapple sage damaged.

I am a little disappointed in the forecast for last night. Predicting temps of 31for the morning and end up with temps of 40. How can the temps be so far off?

Hard to predict exactly, here in my area they predicted a low of 40F for a few hours before dawn, and maybe 39F for an hour. We dropped below 40F around 2AM and continued to drop to 36F now at dawn. Frost is on the rooftops and grass also, which was not predicted in my area. I could feel it in the air though last evening, I knew it was going down lower than they predicted.

Ouch, sorry Sherri. It was the exact opposite here, low 30's were predicted and it never went below 40.

Alice, probably the warmth of the ocean in your case. I just walked around and everything so far looks fine, it is still 47 degrees and at ten o'clock. I worry about my crotons, a bit droopy, but they'll bounce back once the sun and temps get up. Luckily I took my tender plants that I could into the FL room, this is the fourth time this winter we dipped to the 30's, the lowest was 33° after Christmas day, so much for a mild winter. Unusual to have so many cold days in December, usually starts in January. You watch though, Feb. will be in the 80's.... LOL.

That is what I am hoping. Crossing Fingers! Well, maybe not the 80's so soon. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Its pretty annoying thinking winter is over with me buying 15 new plants for spring. I am running out of room for protective places that i can put them. I decided its too close for me to leave all my flowering plants to be victim of frost. I live in an elevated house so most of them are under there which usually prevents frost. Here is hoping that this is the last blast.
