Now for some seedlings that I really like, but my wife absolutely hates. Not sure what to make of that, other than they are clearly not for everyone.

16T-22a. The Haunted Heart influence is fairly obvious, but I can't think of any other iris that really looks much like it.
Thumb of 2022-02-12/KentPfeiffer/40f4fe

16T-22e. Sibling to the above, more conventional in appearance. I like the beards. They are purple, tipped brown which creates an interesting effect.
Thumb of 2022-02-12/KentPfeiffer/18cab5

17T-63b. Resembles its pollen parent, Dragon Dance, quite a bit. Dragon Dance is another Blyth iris I really like that unfortunately doesn't grow very well here. I haven't lost it yet, but it only blooms occasionally. 17T-63b, on the other hand, is a growing and blooming machine.
Thumb of 2022-02-12/KentPfeiffer/6d586b

17T-63d. Sibling to the above. Platinum Class is the only iris I've ever seen that's even close in appearance. Still evaluating its plant habits.

The colors of the first three are a bit "muddy" for my taste, although this last one isn't too bad. Rolling my eyes. What is the small bright pink/peach one on the left?

I keep it around because I like to fiddle with it, but it's unlikely to ever be introduced.

Shrug! I have several "pinkish dark top" seedlings. Not sure any of them will make it to introduction, but 17T-70h is near the bottom of the pile. I keep it because it has smaller flowers so may be useful in breeding that pattern into BBs and MTBs. Plus, I just like dark tops, so they tend to hang around the seedling patch longer than they probably should. 16T-58n is the most likely introduction, although I've somehow never managed to get a decent picture of it. 19T-26b is too new to say much about other than I liked the flower when it bloomed for the first time last spring.

The dark tops seem to be one of the newest groups of traits that has been catching my eye. I know some of you have been enthralled by them for some time but they slowly just grew on me...Especially when the center of the standard is very dark in contrast to the rest of the dark standard.

They do the choosing for me, more often than not. Both 15T-24c and 16T-24a have many nice traits, but also a little nit or two that makes me reluctant to introduce them. They have produced interesting seedlings of their own, though.

For example, I crossed 15T-24c to Smoking Aces (another Blyth iris I really like that doesn't perform well here), hoping to get something similar to Smoking Aces that grows well. Got that, plus a couple of nice surprises.

19T-18a, the Smoking Aces doppelganger except it has a better beard

19T-18e, browner version of 18d

and then 19T-18f, just for the shear how the heck do you get this from those two parents?

Weirdly enough, 16T-24a has also produced a blue seedling

19T-07c is as close to a turquoise iris as I've seen. It's a bit of an illusion, the petals are really just light blue, but the back sides are greenish grey and it alters the apparent color.

The other seedlings from this cross have all been about as different from each as it's possible to imagine. None were what I expected to get.

Other than 19T-07c, I don't think any are keepers, but they are interesting. 19T-07f might have some hybridizing potential so I'll probably keep around at least long enough to find out if that is true or not.

The backgound of even SDB irises which is the specialty here can be so complicated that many 'surprises' appear. Even more complicated in Kent's TBs. Some little ansestor crying to be expressed.
