Paul Black's
Border Bearded Iris (Iris 'Kiss the Frog') probably isn't for everyone, but I think it's a wonderful iris. It has really nice plant habits, blooms exuberantly over a long period of time, and has a fairly unusual parentage.
For all of those reasons, I've used it quite a bit in hybridizing since it was first introduced. It seems to be quite fertile. During 2019 in particular, it set pods at a higher rate than average and its seeds germinated at a higher than average rate. That created sort of an amplifying effect so somewhere around 1/4 of all of my 2019 TB seedlings involved Kiss the Frog.
When the first of them starting blooming last spring, I was thinking oh boy, this is going to be a bust. They were all ugly and/or uninteresting. Like these:
Much better ones bloomed as the season went along, though, and several of the crosses involving Kiss the Frog ended up being among my favorites of the year. Many of them have pretty dramatic brown or gold beards, which was unexpected.

Very very blue, which is nicely set of by the veining and the old gold beards

Not unique by any means, but I like the big brown beards and the white style arms hint at something unusual in its genes
