Hypoestes aristata!

This is such a wonderful plant. I found it by accident ~35 yrs ago at Judy's Perennials in Vista, California,
in September when most plants have stopped blooming. It was growing against the white wall of her home, and caught my eye as we drove past.
Though she only had some small plants that were "not quite ready for sale", she kindly let me buy one.
I've never found it in any nursery since. No pests,
drought resistant, semi-glossy green spade shaped leaves on 1/2" woody stems. Grows in plain soil to 8ft if given support. Blooms pro-fusely! Bee magnet.
Easy to propagate by cuttings, though produces many volunteers. Adds nice foliage all around.
Only wish it had a fragrance.

Thank you, everyone! Smiling

I've cut them all back so they are only sticks now, but they were
7 ft tall (with support) when I took these pics 11/9/2019:

BTW, those are all volunteers, as are all the others
scattered around the garden.

if you'd like a baby Hypoestes bare root......they will do great almost
anywhere, though may have to protect from freezing, even as a potted plant. Thumbs up

BTW, my DW, Ginger, loudly complained how many of the Hypoestes came up
every year, so actually pulled out a lot in 2018.....you can see what little dent
it put in the number of plants. Rolling on the floor laughing

But when I showed her the banner, the extra pics, and the great response,
she relented and was happy to see all. Lovey dubby

I do still have to pull more out as they do love our garden & try to
take it over. Rolling my eyes.

But really not a problem.....they're easy to contain, and are great late bloomers
for bees & fall/early winter color. Highly recommend. Thumbs up
