This time last year I had trouble seeing the good in my gardens at all. Good for you for finding and seeing those things that are still going!

Strangest thing, Dave. I posted this just a little while ago, it was in the upper 90s and the sun was hot. But soon after I posted the skies darkened and we had a horrific downpour for about a minute. It came out of nowhere, and I thought it was gone for sure, but just now it started again. I'm talking a pounding rain. No noise, no storm, just a huge downpour.

Amazing how things like this happen.

I was so excited I grabbed my cellphone and here, you can see.

There's even a puddle in the front yard.
Amazing.

We should know by Friday if Hurricane Isaac has anything for us. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not, depends on the curve it takes after landfall. But it might be that you get some rain from it.

Back to sunshine here now, but that rain sure was beautiful while it lasted today.

We had a good dose of a few short but heavy rains today, and it was wonderful, Vic. I felt like dancing in it and would have but hated to walk into the grocery and post office dripping wet.

I also hope Isaac's rain will head our way, and hope it isn't too bad for those in its path ahead of me.
Thanks.

You're much more likely to get rain from Isaac than Dave is, Sharon.

Looks like it, doesn't it?

I think it was Hurricane Ike that made landfall in September '08; my Texas Gulf Coast relatives came here to get away from it. They had been here a couple of days when early on Sunday morning the winds started roaring and uprooted a tree between my neighbor and me. It was amazingly right on the line and its roots were on that line as well, so there was no damage. However, the wind wiped out the electricity, no internet, no TV for miles around here, but cell phones worked. So my Texas relatives called home and since Ike was long gone, they already had electricity back on and with minimal damage.

They left that same evening to travel back to Texas and here in W KY we went for about a week with no electricity, nothing, all from Ike. I think my relatives were without electricity only for about 3 days.

So we had our one and only hurricane right here in western Kentucky that year. Left a big mess too, but not much rain as I remember. Just very strong winds. Ya just never know!

Yep, my family in Ohio was giving me all kinds of grief after Hurricane Ike, telling me to keep our hurricanes down here where they belonged. Hilarious! We were without power for 19 days after Ike, but some of them were out just as long because their power trucks were down here... they had to wait for repair guys from New Jersey to fix the downed lines in Ohio.

I'm hoping Issac brings some rain to both Texas & Kentucky! If any of you have been watching radar it may seem like the northern portion of Fl. has been under the weather all day. Not so! We only got a light rain late this afternoon which didn't last long at all. And for once, we don't need any rain. The Suwanee River had enough trouble when Debby came through & since then we have had T-Storms every afternoon. Homes in this county flooded & FEMA stepped in. The daily downpours have kept much of the area on the border of flooding yet again.
But having been through my share of droughts I can surely say it's a wondrous thing when you finally get rain! Glorious & exhilarating! Don't you just love the smell?

Funny you say that, Anni. I was just outside a little while ago and simply stood for a while inhaling. Smells so good and I could even smell the earth. First time in a long time I could smell that deep earthy scent. We might have had about an inch of rain, but however much it was, it was heavenly.

I'm glad you've had rain this summer. It's the first time I ever realized how much rain could be missed. I swear I missed it, the feel of it, the scent of it, the sound of it. And I don't ever want to forget how necessary it truly is. I think I have been in worse shape than the plants without it.

I understand completely. I have never been fond of rain -- or should I say I HAD never been fond of rain. Going through droughts can sure change the way you look at things.
Hey! That's what your blog was all about. Thumbs up

And the rains came and with them came the morning glories!!!
Thumb of 2012-08-28/Sharon/f8d570

First morning glories I've seen all summer! Now I'm not really a great fan of morning glories though they do stir up memories of the cornfield back home. For years I thought it was the corn blooming.

Aside from the memories, though, Ethan planted the morning glories for me when he planted the sunflowers, and though they vined and though I kept them watered, they never bloomed till now. Oh but hey, it's all in the way we look at things, and I have gorgeous red blooms this morning. Hooray for the little things!

Horray for the rain!
So, are you not allowed to water anything? We don't have rain from about early May through Nov. No summer rain, that's normal for Calif.
