I just got back from a jaunt with Sue. We aren't buying plants these days, although I did buy a nice gallon-size Clematis Henryi. She came up to look at a house and we went out for frozen yogurt afterwards.

That's Penelope. Does it look familiar, Alan? You see it every time you come into this cubit. The banner came from part of that photo.

I wondered when you put Penelope in the database whether that was she in the banner.

It is indeed she and I commend you for your proper use of the pronoun. It's been so long since I've heard someone say that correctly. I get tired of watching TV dramas, ostensibly showing us stories about intelligent individuals, but invariably having them make statements such as: "Was it him? It wasn't me!"

Re: not being able to post photos, I posted the photo of the flower at RoseFile, and at DG, just to be sure the problem was not entirely at my end. I reset my browser, Safari. I tried again this morning. No dice. Nothing happens.

Re: Penelope, I've grown Penelope on and off for some time. In my experience, the rose does really well until the moment the roots dry out the first time. Then it's over. The plant may not die, but it sulks interminably. Not sure I've had a rose that can do so well, then just sulk forever. I've never seen one with that many blossoms. Wow.

As far as bad grammar and enunciation, please open this image up & read it. It'll explain EVERYTHING. Don't look at the little preview, you have to open it and read all 3 panels.

LOL! I like that Toni!

I knew I had seen it somewhere, ZuZu, but I could not remember where. Love that rose. May have to add it to my collection this spring, if it is easily available.

HMF has so many wonderful pictures of that rose! This is another one I love, reminds me of Zuzu's image.

By the way, in the Co-op Plants by Charlene Cubit, Charlene is purchasing roses wholesale from Chamblee's and giving us the roses at her discount. They will be small but that's perfect for me as I will be potting them to grow out a bit before deciding where to plant.

Penelope is also available from ARE, if you care about the size of the original own root rose you put in the garden.

Right now I care about stretching my new garden $ so Chamblee's will do with these prices plus our weather allows for fast growth. Have you seen how many I ordered on that thread?!

Non-patented roses and Miniature roses will be sold for $6.00
Patented roses (including knock-out) will be sold for $6.75
David Austin roses will be sold for $8.75

Try growing an own-root one, Alan. Mine's probably that big because it's grafted.

Did I just see Helpmefind is starting to require you subscribe to them to get access to their website, or am I missing something?

nyah, the regular info is below the signup part. You just have to scroll down. First time I saw that I was on my netbook and I was like, "OH crap!" But I signed up for them anyways 'cuz it's only $24/year and WELL worth it!

I'm not getting that message, Alan, because I'm already a premium member, so I can't answer your question specifically. They started asking for donations a couple of years ago and then encouraged people to pay $24 a year for a premium membership about a year and a half ago because they're really hurting for money. All of the work on the site is done by volunteers, but there are other costs, and there's never been a single ad on the site, so there's no advertising revenue.

As far as I know, regular membership is still free, and there are a few perks with premium membership, but the only one I remember is access to detailed lineage info. I just think it's a site well worth supporting even if the donation or membership fee doesn't offer extra perks. I use the site literally every day and I would be crushed if it were to disappear for lack of income.

Agreed it is a an awesome resource. If I went there every day, I would feel it was worth the $24. But alas, I seldom go there anymore. Maybe once every 2 or 3 months. For me the $25 wouldn't be worth it. Is it tax deductible? If it were, I would probably donate just because I know it's a volunteer site, and there is a lot of great info there when I need it.

A donation probably would be deductible, but the membership fee could only be deducted if your declared income depends on that membership.

I don't think I would pay if I used the site as infrequently as you do.
