WOW! How are you getting so much increase? I bought a trailer load of western mix and it has really helped in the new bed. Do you use the spray M. Grow?

You have some beautiful plants, I am turning green here :)

Teresa, NORTH WIND DANCER is very pretty but it is a leaner. I have to stake it when in bloom so the flowers don't end up touching the ground.

This is a great thread on talking about the best performers in our gardens, not just our favorites. It was hot and dry in NH this summer also and I only watered once the daylilies below were the ones that really stood out regardless.

Dot, I'm glad you couldn't resist posting more than 5 because I loved them all and I'll take one of each nodding Drooling Thumbs up

VANILLA GORILLA was and has been one of my top performers for the past couple of years. Scapes stand straight and tall, flowers always look good and it's very hardy. It makes an outstanding clump! Hurray!

VICTORIAN GARDEN STAR BRIGHT - when this daylily is in bloom I can't wait to go out and see it in the morning. The flowers looks just about as good as the end of the day as they do in the beginning. I love the ruffled edge with it's thin gold line that really sets off the dark color.

GLORY TO HIS NAME by Jack Carpenter has been a stand out my garden for the last couple of years. It was a real blooming machine and though it was grown in full sun the dark purple flowers held up very well and looked good at the end of the day. This plant was a fast increaser for me and formed a beautiful clump quickly. Thumbs up

SYMPHONY OF PRAISE
I've sung the praises of this daylily previously but I'm happy to do it again as it's such a beautiful plant and also a great performer. Large 7" lucious pink flowers. I think it's worthy of the Stout award.
Thumb of 2012-09-26/nh4me/b660fa Thumb of 2012-09-26/nh4me/caf4be

CATASTROPHE WAITRESS by Curt Hanson is a wonderful hardy daylily that does so well in my garden. I love the coloring and the glowing watermark. It also increases well for me and made a good clump in a relatively short time. Buds and branching are great Thumbs up

THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM COMES - I like many of Bill Waldrop's daylilies. His KENNESAW MTN. LEMON SORBET has really stolen my heart Lovey dubby but I must say that THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM comes has been a nice surprise, large flowers on tall scapes and it reblooms. When this was in bloom there were usually multiple blooms open each day. Increases well.

ALL MY LOVE TO YOU by John Rice is a beautiful dark purple with a lighter watermark and does not spot and every flower looks beautiful. Blooms for a long time.
Life is short, enjoy the ride!

Teresa,
My daylies aren't grown in the ground but in big 20" pots in potting soil and fine pines. I use timed release fertilizer quivalent to Nutricote. Apparently they love it. But since they aren't in the ground, they aren't as free to spread as much later on.

I will edit to add pictures later - they are on my other computer.

The best performers for me this year were:

BLUE BEETLE - increased fans and rebloomed. Both scapes had lots of well formed blooms.

KEEP ON DREAMIN' - increased from one fan to 2 but did bloom really well and then sent up a rebloom scape that was better than the first.

LINDA'S MAGIC - lovely, clear, large blooms. Did not increase but did rebloom twice!
Thumb of 2012-09-27/JWWC/ebb2e1

BECAUSE OF YOU - bloomed really well, increased in fans and also had loads of lovely flowers.
Thumb of 2012-09-27/JWWC/5ac29e

BULLFROG KISSES - increased and grew really well for me. Sent up 4 scapes and was loaded with blooms.
Thumb of 2012-09-27/JWWC/1317a3

ETA - I would be curious to know how FOUR EYES performed for anyone who has it...

Teresa, the only blooms that have ever hung up for me were on WONDER OF IT ALL, and I had to "assist" with opening just about each and every one this year. But DUKE OF GASCONE never hangs up for me, and neither does PARROTS OF THE CARIBBEAN.

Karin, that is very odd that North Wind Dancer leans for you. I have heard others say that too. I have had it for about 5 years and never have I ever had it lean. Now Curly Cinnamon Windmill leans for me and I had to stake that one.

When considering my top five, I considered the beauty of the bloom and the length of the bloom season (really important to me).

Oklahoma Sand Burr is a blooming machine here with rebloom scapes continuing until almost the end of the summer.

Cherry Ice Cream Smile is probably my favorite new daylily this year. It continued to produce rebloom scapes until late summer.

Mystic Image is always a favorite here for the beauty of the bloom. Love the double edge. It has a couple of reblooms scapes right now not yet blooming.

Cutting Loose makes my top five mainly because it kept churning out rebloom scapes, even after I would break them off.

Icicles would be a runner up because, just like Cutting Loose, it continued to produce rebloom scapes all summer and even after I kept breaking them off. Since it was a new plant, I didn't want it to bloom itself to death!

There are many others that are favorites here because their blooms are stunningly beautiful, but didn't quite have the length of bloom as my top five.

Beautiful, pics everyone. My summer was crazy and I don't know if I got a handful of pictures Sad Lots of time at hospitals, and such. Say it's not so! NORTHWIND D. is a leaner! Cindy, wonder why yours isn't? I want to try it here I guess and see. Glad to know that most of yours do not hang up. I have a few that needs help in the morning :(

I am thinking this is a DANGEROUS thread!

Dot, your photos this summer are what caused me to put Can't Touch This toward the top of my wish list...sigh... Lovey dubby

Most of mine are fairly new, but had a handful that did exceptionally well in this hot, dry summer.

Favorite of all is Sunset Bay. Fast increase, lots of blooms, gloriously bright color, and beautiful fragrance.

Dominic. Short scapes, which I like but some don't. Lots of rebloom and held its color.

It's really hard to just pick 5 but here goes.

1. Buddy's wild & wonderful - bloomed it's head off as well as giving me numerous pods.

2.Velvet Ribbons - again a blooming machine and a few pods.

3.Tigerland - Started early and just kept going also a good pod parent.

4. Mama's Pajamas - Just beautiful, loads of bloom and excellent increase. I think the few pods I set were full of squishy seeds thou Sad
a clump shot Big Grin Thumb of 2012-09-27/kimkats/cc94cd

5. Exotic Design- new this year but wow!!! a blooming machine, pollen fertile and I couldn't resist setting 1 pod on it. Decent increase as well. I wish the scapes were taller but I still love it Lovey dubby

Very nice, I grow B. WILD and WONDERFUL. It has only been here one yr and needs to settle in.

WEBSTER's PINK WONDER was added the same time and I think it will be nice too.

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Webster's Pink Wonder')

Just wonderng if MAMA PAJAMA'S is a very bright pink? I don't have many pinks, they are growing on me Smiling

That is hard but a great idea.................

Raspberry Splash. A bloomin' machine this thing was and so many poly blooms. Great pod setter.

Freedom in Flight. I bought this sight unseen on Liz Salter's recommendation and fell in love with the coloring. The contrast between the eye and throat is wonderful.

Carolyn Mersiovsky. I hate to mention one of my own but got these clumps from Dan and this thing bloomed like crazy even after being dug and potted. Lots of seeds too.
Thumb of 2012-09-27/LALAMBCHOP/7c065a

Octomom. What a knock out this little baby was. It came late season and bloomed like a champ. Even the hybridizer, Pat Cochenour, was impressed with this array.

Impish Delight. Lots of gorgeous blooms and pods too.

After the Fire. This gets an honorable mention. No pods but look at the bloom.

Here is a close -up of Mama's Pajamas from last year. It was taken in full sun.I would not exactly call it bright but it isn't washed out either.
