i have been loosing seed pods the last cpl weeks
most of them are small undeveloped but now i have lost a cpl bigger ones
i thought i would show one of the pods i had high hopes for that didn't make it
this is an imperial sunrise pollinated by Spotty Dotty
you can see all the seeds that might have been possible if the pollination had taken

looking closer i could see the one seed that tried & made the pod grow
but the plant either got too hot during the heat wave or was too young

Well after all your hard work I am glade it looks like you will get some good seeds.
I went out the other day to collect seeds from some of the streaked Hosta and they were just about all gone. No Deer can get in yard and have never seen anything else go for their seeds so not sure what ate them.

Deer have nipped off almost all of my Fuchsia buds, not sure of what colors some are now
you know we can eat the fruit of Fuchsia if you don't want to mess with the seed
most of them are kinda sweet
but the Deer didn't touch the Kaleidoscope with seed pods in the garden
as matter fact they don't touch the podo's at all

Even though Deer can eat toxic plants I would think they would avoid them if they have other choices. And from the look of your gardens they have lots to choice from.

sadly the Red Panda bought the farm and took the seed pods with it
Thumb of 2020-09-18/Strever/4733a0

seems almost all of the new other Podo's i have been trying to cross
are not as stable as the ones i have raised for years
and the plants are giving up the ghost too early
maybe next year when they are older and more experienced they will try harder Smiling

Well
it looks like this season is winding down
the regular pleianthum plant was collapsing so i grabbed the one pod that had survived and opened it
low and behold there were some viable looking seed
Thumb of 2020-09-24/Strever/7aa6ef

i checked the plant to make sure it was OK and not dying, and it has new starts for next spring Smiling
Thumb of 2020-09-24/Strever/8e7b40

cleaned all the seed in the pod and it looks like maybe only two are viable ?
Thumb of 2020-09-24/Strever/bf5699

but will put all of them in the seed tray
Thumb of 2020-09-24/Strever/561091

so i thought maybe i should look at more pods, and picked a small pod off one of the Kaleidoscope
Thumb of 2020-09-24/Strever/b0b81f

a k1 x iS Kaleidoscope mother & Imperial sunrise father Smiling
plus i took the smaller of two pods off the Red Panda group
RP2 x iS Red Panda group mother w/ Imperial sunrise father , but only one seed Sad
Thumb of 2020-09-24/Strever/8afb1a

so it looks like i have a lot of seed to start collecting
all those large ones in the pict above are Kaleidoscope x Kaleidoscope Smiling

i started picking seed pods today and started on the new imported
first was iS2xSD imperial sunrise x spotty dotty = not good
Thumb of 2020-09-26/Strever/3dc3e6

next was RP2xK1 Red Panda group x kaleidoscope = a tiny bit better
Thumb of 2020-09-26/Strever/aa3f06

then i decided to start on the Kaleidoscope pods
first was K1iS Kaleidoscope x imperial sunrise = not bad Smiling
Thumb of 2020-09-26/Strever/a5b495

Thumb of 2020-09-26/Strever/512326

next was KSD which last year looked good but they are sorta weak
so i didn't do a lot of them, 2 pods = not very promising
