This is not the well-known Boerner Aloha. It's the other one, bred by Kordes and sometimes called Aloha Hawaii. It's blooming again and I'm struck again by the variety of blooms it produces. All of these photos were taken on the same day, so all of these different blooms were on the rose at the same time. Can you imagine a more entertaining rose?

Yes! And more! It also puts out yellow blooms, but there weren't any that day. Look at all of these different looks:

Zuzu,

I planted two of them last fall on the west side of the house at the base of a large lattice, covered them in a big mound of soil and mulch, and hoped they would overwinter OK. They did! And now their new growth is doing just fine.

I could take pictures of it every day, it's so beautiful! I left my last one behind at the old house but bought a replacement in Jan and it's in a large pot and just started blooming, makes me so happy, it has to be one of my all time favorite rose!

Did a gardener buy your house, Sue? It would be hard to leave your favorite plants behind.

No, a young Chinese couple who just had a baby in Jan. They know nothing about gardening. In fact, I dropped by on Monday as the husband said there were a few plants he was getting rid of because of the baby, he heard they were poisonous. I didn't know which ones he meant. It was the huge brugmansias. Too big for me to dig up (6-8 ft tall) plus I already had cuttings of them. Besides, I have always had kids and grandkids and if they are still of an age that they put things in their mouths, they are always supervised anyways, a must with a pond in the yard. Oh, and the pond was almost empty, they have not been adding water as it evaporates. The front and backyard were very overgrown and full of weeds and way too many self seeded euphorbias everywhere. I showed him what needed to be pulled out, he said he didn't even know what was a weed and what was a real plant. I had left several large pots behind because I had too many already, the plants were all dead. The house was a cluttered mess.
I won't be back. Glare
I had dug up most of my favorite plants though, if they were harder to find and replace although a couple of roses I wish I had also brought with me. I brought over 600 potted plants to the new house and still have a lot at my Moms to collect.

Oh, Sue, that must have been disappointing to see such neglect, but what can you do, but move on and recreate your new sanctuary!

How sickening, Sue. That's why Mrs. Horn's friends have never let her see what Daphne did to her garden. She visits friends in the neighborhood regularly, but her daughter drives her up Kelly so that she won't have to look at her house and garden. The really awful thing is that realtors discourage us from taking our plants, insisting that the new owners will want them.

Good thing you have your pictures of how beautiful the house and garden looked when you owned them, and now you'll have an even better house and garden.

Come over soon. That rain this morning made the ground perfect for digging up Penelope and Perle d'Or and the other roses.

Cool beans. I'll be up at the crack of noon, as usual, and the only thing I have to do all day is go see Stella for a few minutes. She's so old that we can't walk anymore, so I just drop in to say hello to her and give her a peanut-butter bone.

Yes, she is. Rolling on the floor laughing

She's a neighborhood dog I've been visiting every day for more than 10 years. Her owners work all day and Stella gets lonely, so I visit her in the middle of the day. We used to take walks every day, but she's too old and weak for that now.
