Wanted to add I agree about Cliff. He emailed me about three weeks ago to let me know my rose was ready. When I asked if he could delay shipping for several weeks cuz we had a couple frosts projected, no problem! Not every grower I have purchased from is as attentive and communicates so well, or considerate enough to wait for my timeframe and weather. Thumbs up

I agree. Exact timing in rose shipments can add a great deal of value.

I decided to give it a try. So here's my Eurodesert order: Annapurna, Osiana, Rosenprinzessin, Tropical Amazone, Dolly's Sister, and Ovid. I'm looking for fragrance and reflexed petal tips in HTs. I wanted another setigera hybrid, since I find Thor and Baltimore Belle to be among the few roses that convincingly resist both furry creatures and freeze-thaw cycling here, and I like the shape of Ovid's bloom. Finally, there's just something about the arrangement of petals in Rosenprinzessin and the color of Tropical Amazone that I couldn't resist.

Oh, that photograph of Rosenprinzessin is irresistible, isn't it? In general, Cliff's photos make me want all of his plants.

They are now in the ground and carefully watered in. I doubt we'll see anything from Tropical Amazone for at least a year. Most of the plants are small, and in pots smaller than bands from VG or Ashdown. But they look healthy. Rosenprinzessin arrived with buds, so I'm hopeful we'll get a flower out of the order this year.

This question has probably aleady been answered but I can't find it. Is there anywhere on Cliff's site to find out about the rose? I can't seem to find any info other than pics.

And I can't seem to navigate the 'help me find' site well enough to get info re: fragrance, blooming etc. Or maybe some of his roses are so unique they aren't on there?

Any help appreciated......for the technology impaired.. Whistling

My belief - based on browsing there - is that there isn't, yet. I browse there with one browser window set to HelpMeFind and another set to Eurodesert Roses. When I find a Eurodesert rose that interests me, I read about the rose at HMF. I wish I had a better answer.

Thanks Steve,
Guess I'll give HMF another try. The first ones I tried may have been too obscure to get anymore info than was on EDR's site.

Sometimes ED roses start pretty small...
This is one I got this spring. It is one of the three smallest of the order, but all of them were pretty small.

If I planted a rose that small it would be lost forever.

Cliff has very generously offered to replace the smallest roses with different varieties that are larger in size. Still visiting these itsy bitsy plants, watering daily, and hoping.

A rose that itsy would fry here!! OMG, talk about an adorable baby plant! Smiling I'd almost keep that in an aquarium that I've built as a greenhouse until it got a bit bigger.

Just wanted to give follow-up on EuroDesert.

I had ordered Abracadabra. About a 6 weeks ago I got an email from Cliff asking me if I still wanted this rose. Very detailed, including info that it didn't always bloom true, and that his plants were very small. I told him that many years back I had ordered one Rose the Fairy from Springhill (almost 20 years ago now Big Grin ) and the cuttings from that one little rose ended up becoming shrubs surrounding a 10 x20 ft. deck by rooting them directly in mulch, so the size wasn't an issue for me. I also told him that, thanks to you all, I know that it could revert to Black Beauty. Since I had also thought about purchasing Black Beauty, it wouldn't upset me if that happened.

When Cliff sent my order, he included BOTH Black Beauty (which I hadn't ordered Thumbs up ) and Abracadabra with a note saying that since the plants were so small, he enclosed both.

After a bit of time in pots, I placed both roses in my newest rose bed. Within a month Abracadabra had produced a lovely little bloom-true to color!

I was so very pleased with his communication, generosity, and caring for his roses, that I just ordered three more during his 'end of season' sale.

Five stars from me!

Cyndy - That's SOO cool that your babies have given you blooms already! Now you can't tease us like this w/o a picture or two...

I'm too much of a beginner to try again.. I'll stick w/bigger plants until I have more experience under my wing, THEN I'll try his plants again. I'm too forgetful and negligent to care for such delicate roses.

I will post pics as soon as I can. For some reason my Confused computer wont read a 512mg. digital card that is 6 years old and I can't download them right now............ :(

I absolutely agree that bigger, more mature are much, much easier. Since I'm retired, I have time to fuss w/ them Smiling

After trying to grow roses in Calif for 30 years with many summer days over 105 degrees, the environment in Ohio seems so much friendlier to them..... In that environment EVERY rose was high maintenance. Sad
