Ok, I did see this website, but, again was shy about ordering. They will definitely be on my list for 2011. I've found a few that I'd love to have already.

dammit

I went ahead and ordered 3 roses. Fudge.

I ordered Veldfire (gorgeous!, even though it's so close to Mardi Gras), City of London (so delicate looking!) and Fisherman's Friend (got that one from Heirloom, it didn't even last a month).

*sigh* DH is gonna kill me.

I'm so relieved that it wasn't a case of mistreatment or abuse, Zu. So often that happens to poor animals and children and it's my hot button!

Toni, I try not to visit web sites unless I'm ready or prepared to order, because I always do end up ordering. In fact, I was trying to locate Snowpeak Irises yesterday and ended up on Stoney Creek's site (because I typed in "Snow Creek" instead of "Snowpeak") and ordered 7 new irises! I also fully intend to place a clem order very soon and buy at least one more rose, maybe more. Acccckkkk! I'm pathetic, no self-restraint whatsoever.

You ordered three from Pickering, Toni? I think you'll be very pleased with them. They grow their roses outside in Ontario, so they should be hardier than most.

No abuse of any kind with these ferals, Angie. My neighbors were scrupulous about keeping them happy and well-fed. They just couldn't catch them to take them to a vet.

Haven't gotten the confirmation yet if what I ordered was still available, so I'm waiting to hear on that. But, I took the dive after I saw what you got. Much nicer than some other mail orders that I shall not mention here. Smiling

Received my roses this morning.. one cane on one was broken and there were no leaves on any of the canes. I'll have to put them in the ground tonight and see how they do.

I'm sure they'll do fine. Pickering has never sent me anything that wasn't outstanding. Please let us see some pics in a couple of weeks!

I'm so sorry that your first experience with Pickering was not awe-inspiring, Toni, but I'm sure the plants will rebound quickly. Mine didn't have leaves on them either. You don't want leaves on roses that are traveling all the way from Canada. I also had a few broken canes, but you and I both have to remember that we placed our orders very late and therefore got the dregs. As dregs, they're far superior to the norm.

they're still better than Heirloom!! look at it this way, no blackspot! They'll get put into the ground in the morning, then it's a waiting game, like it is with everything.

Ten times better than Heirloom, not to mention cheaper and less expensive on shipping charges. I'm sure they'll do fine. I'll remind you this year to order from them earlier. They usually start taking orders around October. If we order them then, we'll get the pick of the litter.

If you're in the market for Sunrise or Super Dorothy, Pickering is the place to get them. I have three Sunrise plants. The one from Pickering grew to about 6 feet the first year, within a few months after planting. The two from Vintage are still only 2-3 feet tall after 2 or 3 years of growing.

I saw my Mom's Sunrise rose today, kicked myself for not bringing my camera, what is wrong with me?! She got hers at Vintage last year and planted it in quite a large pot. It was at least 3-4 ft tall and had probably a dozen or more wondrous blooms on it! It just glowed! Mine is in partial shade and I have had maybe half as many blooms. She's a good rose mommy. She certainly is. Her roses are always phenomenal in every way, but I thought she bought her Sunrise from Vintage 2 or 3 years ago when we were digging through the gallon plants in GVR's chicken yard.

By the way, I just checked Pickering's site and I was wrong. They'll start taking orders for next season (fall 2010/spring 2011) in August. If you want them shipped in November, you have to order before September 30th. If you want them shipped in spring, you can order any time from August 2010 to May 1st, 2011. Whatever your shipping date preference is, please remember to place your orders early. We all want the pick of the litter.

Pickering, incidentally, carries four of the roses from Ralph Moore's Persian line. I have those four and a fifth I bought either from Nor'East or Sequoia, and all five are enchanting, wonderful, charming, etc., etc., etc.

You're right Zuzu, she bought it the year before. Time flies!
I will have to get back over there to take pictures of her garden, she is so good about fertilizing and mulching and the results speak for themselves.

Pictures of Sunrise? I'm assuming yellows, reds, oranges, pinks.

Angie - http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

wow. That's all I got to say. It makes Mardi Gras & Gingersnap seem blah.

And I'm not disappointed in the roses. I am just waiting frickin' patiently for some FRICKIN' HEAT!!! I planted the three in the ground & watered uber heavy as it's only 55 w/a high today of 65 and good chance of thunder storms. WHERE'S THE 70S & 80S I WAS PROMISED!!! Bleh. I barely have ANY leaves on the roses from Palentine because of the weather, not because of the roses. The ones from GVR are doing quite well, though..
