Are there any daylily resellers you can name that sell the newer southern daylilies and are in a northern enough climate to have freezing winters? I'm trying to avoid bringing in rust again next year, but can't seem to find many daylily nurseries that are in say zones 7a-6 and up that sell the newer hybrids. I've ordered from Diane's and Early Bird with sterling results, but if you know of any other rust free gardens that sell the newer hybrids (like Trimmer, or Nicoles) I'd sure like to hear about them......Maryl.

Rich Howard in Connecticut has some of the newer Trimmer and Stamiles. I didn't look through everything he has so he may have others as well.

Michele, what would we do without your fountain of wisdom? Somehow, you always seem to have the answer or at least a direction in which to start looking. Thank you! I tip my hat to you. Group hug

I believe Mike Grossman of Northern Lights Daylilies sells a lot of the southern ones. Only with him you only get a single fan.

Here's Mike's website http://www.northernlightsdaylilies.com/Home_Page.php
He sells on the lily auction also.

De on the lily auction is in Indiana and he sells all the new ones. I don't know if he has a regular website or not. I can't remember his real name to look it up. I noticed his all closed yesterday so he'll be re-listing soon.

I almost forgot this. http://www.daylilydiary.com/. It lists a lot of gardens and their website. If you look all the way to the left, the state where they are located is listed for each one. Saves times having to look at each one to see where they are.

AHS has some listed http://www.daylilies.org/AHSsource.html
They go buy AHS regions but it will tell you what states they are located.

You might want to check with De about whether they are greenhouse grown before ordering. Btw Michele his name is John DeMory (working from memory so I may have misspelled that). I haven't been able to find a regular website of his. I live about 30 minutes from him and was curious if he sold from his garden.

Ah Ha! Greenhouse grown - another thing I need to check out from more northern growers. They certainly can have rust if they are grown in a greenhouse as opposed to field grown. Thanks for making the lightbulb go off JWWC...........I'm familiar from a few years ago with Mike Grossman's daylilies. Wonder why just the single fans? Not a fan of singles really....... Thanks for the link Michelle to the Ct nursery. I'll be looking them over. I have the web site from Charlottes that lists by state, but I'm physically limited as to how long I can look at web sites on my computer. There are many northern nurseries, and so far not many carry the more modern ruffly full figured daylilies I like, so I guess I was cheating a bit by asking for help. But thanks for mentioning it....I was thinking about subscribing to the Eureka Guide if they still exist. That way I can page through them on the sofa. Anyone familiar with their guides?........Maryl

Maryl, my understanding is that there will not be a 2013 Eureka Daylily Guide. Don't know if it will return in the future. This is probably because there are so many daylily websites that people are not buying the Eurekas as they once did. Too bad because I always liked the Eurekas and found them very helpful, and there are still lots of daylily sellers who do not have websites.

I got some very nice Daylilies from 'Daylilies by the Pond'. They are in Ohio and they have Trimmer and Stamiles.

I know that 'Earlybird Daylilies' is in Kansas and I think she is having a going out of business sale @ 25% off.

Maryl, I'll vouch for Daylilies by the Pond! Sara is absolutely super, and will bend over backward to please you - even if you wouldn't dream of asking for special treatment. : ) Her daylilies are field grown, and I received 4-5 times the number of fans that I ordered from her three years ago. : ) That's 1 1/2 years before my garden contracted rust.

Whether or not Daylilies by the Pond - or any other field grower/nursery - will be able to offer certifiably rust-free daylilies early next spring depends on this winter. If Ohio has a 7-10 day hard freeze (i.e., 24 hours/day for 7-10 days of below 32 degree F temps), then you're good to go.

For my part, I'm very sympathetic to your quest. So far, it looks as though I've gotten rid of rust in my garden in northern California, merely by having extremely dry and relatively cold nights during the winter of 2011/12. Or at least, I've seen no sign of rust for 12 months. (I unfortunately bought daylilies from southeast sellers in the autumn of 2009.)

Here's to a rust-free garden in the future! : )

Elizabete

PS From personal experience I know that Blueridge Daylilies (at http://www.blueridgedaylilies.com/, also on eBay as blueridgebuttons http://stores.ebay.com/Blue-Ridge-Daylilies-DAYLILY-STORE?re..., and at http://www.thebloomingauction.com/storecatalog.asp?userid=3) offers rust-free daylilies for shipment as soon as the snow melts in May. I can't recommend them highly enough. : )

I can also vouch for Robert Selman (aka Blueridge on the Lily Auction), I get huge fans from Bob and I have purchased from him several times on Blooming Auction and eBay also.

I just bought 4 daylilies from Bob Selman from the Daylily Store. This will be the first time I have ordered from him, and did so because of all the good notices he has from buyers. Also, I am trying to rid my garden of rust, so wanted to purchase from growers in colder areas, I read Mike Grossman's info on the LA and he says his DLs are greenhouse grown. This will keep me away from him, plus I don't purchase single fan DLs, (with one exception and that was Voila Francois from a Southern grower--this did not have rust).

Dan Bachman of Valley of the Daylilies in Lebanon, OH (just north of Cincinnati, OH) http://www.thevalleyofthedaylilies.com/index.html

This was his inventory list for 2012. http://www.thevalleyofthedaylilies.com/files/Full_Inventory....

I've known Dan and Jackie Bachman since 1999 and have bought from him locally since then. He's on the LA as valleydan. But right now he's just selling seeds. He has sold plants on the LA and I bought some from him.

He's into the UF/spidery dls and he sends out his color catalog that only has his intros. I've about a dozen of his intros. He even named one for me! Green Grin!

I tried looking up the website for Blueridge and the link supplied by Elizabeth, but the newest date I get is 2011. Does he only sell via auctions anymore? Gosh, I hope not.......I called one of the well known southern growers the other day just to double check on their rust situation, and yes, they make no claims for rust free daylilies, nor do they have a separate section to trial for rust resistance. I liked the honesty at least....I appreciate everyone's input and assure you I will be looking suggested nurseries up......I also called the number for Eureka but wasn't able to reach anyone. I will keep trying.....Maryl

Maryl, at least in the last five years, I think Bob Selman only sold via eBay, the bloomingauction, and less frequently on the Lily Auction. (The list on his website just gives you an idea of the 2000 or so daylilies that he grows in his fields.) In years gone by, he has run sales - i.e., at cut-rate prices - in the autumn and/or winter on eBay that offered a greater number of daylilies than appear currently. But, I have no idea what his plans are for the future. Many sellers have mentioned a huge drop in sales recently.)

I don't know as fact that Bob guarantees rust-free daylilies, which would be dangerous for any seller, who might have to contend with buyers who later discover rust in their gardens that actually came from a different source, or even over-wintered in the buyers' own gardens. What I do know is that a couple of years ago a visitor to Blueridge dropped by virtually unannounced and wrote on a forum about discovering pristine growing conditions ('the cleanest garden I've ever seen' was roughly what he wrote), and with well defined quarantine areas and procedures for new arrivals. This description plus knowing that daylilies scheduled for early spring delivery are dug immediately after the snow and ice melt make me feel comfortable with continuing to buy from Blueridge.

If I'm not mistaken, Doris (Casshigh on ATP) on FB mentioned that Eureka isn't producing a book this year. I gather that people hope that someone else might take over the operation, but maybe Doris can expand on this topic.

All the best! - Elizabete
