A wihile back on this thread, I mentioned that I am collecting a few to add to my already extensive collection of pre-1980 registered daylilies. I want at least one from each decade since the first modern daylily was registered. I have Apricot- Yeld 1893 and I have one or more from each decade after 1920. I need two daylilies to finish my collection. I need one from 1900-1909 and one from 1910-1919. Hopefully I can find these sometime.

Autumn Minaret -Stout 1951
Blooming in my garden at almost 90 inches tall.
I have never had a daylily any where near that tall before.

Thanks for posting that one, I forgot I have it too. I had moved it but it always is easy to ID. Mine is near 6ft. My tallest daylily.

I realize this is a very old post, so hopefully, someone will see this. I was wondering where you purchased your older variety daylilies from? I have been looking around for the heirloom plants. Thank You!

I have thought for years I had Autumn Minaret-that is what it was give to me as. The last year I learned how tall Autumn Minaret is & realized mine was wrong, although the flower looks right. Not nearly tall enough. I'm sure it must be in that same time line though. I also grow Arkansas Post (65), Autumn Blaze (60), Better believe It (68), Brave World (67), Bright Banner (55), Citrina (1897), Crazy Lace (66), Crimson Pirate (66), Dumortieri (37), Frances Fay (57), Frans Hals (59), Gold Banner (66), Hyperion, Ice Carnival (67), Lady Fingers 67, Mary Todd (67), Pink Damask (51), Red Magic (50), Red Spider (50), royal Elk (57), So Lovely (69), & Vivacious (66). I didn't realize I had that many pre-70, til I started listing. Oddly, I don't have that many from 70's. Some of those oldies are my better bloomers, others aren't worth the space & may be leaving soon.

@alilyfan that is an impressive list of pre1970. It would be nice to know which oldie ones are your better bloomers and which ones might not be worth it. Thankyou for any info you can share! May joy surround you!

Some of you wanted to know the best bloomers of my older ones. The best are Mary Todd, Crimson Pirate, Royal Elk,& Gold Banner, with So Lovely, Hyperion, Frans Hals, & the alias Autumn Minaret very close behind. Dumortieri blooms well, & very early in the season, about a month before any of my other daylilies. I have Howdy too, don't think I mentioned that one earlier, & it blooms quite well.
On the other hand, Arkansas Post & Brave World don't bloom very well at all, as few as 3 blooms per scape, but I really like how they look together so I keep them around. Better Believe It and Crazy Lace don't usually bloom well, but I keep them around because they are a little different. And just when I was thinking I should get rid of them, they will have a really good year. This year Better Believe it bloomed nicely & then rebloomed with almost as many as it had the first time. It's just like they know something.

Thank You! alilyfan! Brave World is one I put on a want list and then I take it off. I think I will just take it off. Mary Todd has been one, too! I will keep that one on! Thank you for your help! May your home and gardens be blessed with success!
