I have been doing so well with staying away from the seed auctions, I really don't need to be reading this lol.

I keep telling myself what are the chances you will get something really GREAT.

I have been out Christmas shopping so that is my main focus now. Jan and Feb I cann't say.

Spots in other colors sounds really neat, Char!

Oranges are not my favorite, yet a few oranges are among my all time favorites. Ten Cent Wings, Maple Hues, Flaming Flamingo (which I don't have yet!), Little Boy Bob (a small spidery of Dottie Warrell's)

Jerry Hyatt is an amazing parent! Hurray!

Well after seeing Lyle's seedlings from Larry's Obsession, I am sure I will use its pollen a lot if it makes it through our winter.

Me too, Cindy, about Larry's Obsession, and for the same reason of seeing Lyle's photos.

I've been thinking about this and decided to look through my records. Over the years there have been 50 +/- crosses purchased from the LA and some bonus crosses sent with a rough total of 350 - 400 purchased seeds. Currently there are 6 sdlgs from various years still here....not sure any of them are great, but they are being used in my own crosses. These are my 3 favorites....

Last Flight Out X Entwined in the Vine

Thumb of 2012-12-14/Char/ebde31

Betty Harwood X Angels Gather Round

Thumb of 2012-12-14/Char/7a49cc

and this one from bonus seeds sent by a friend who grows my Doc Webster.
Doc Webster X Heman

While these sdlgs may not be something others would want to keep they do display characteristics I enjoy working on. Can you get a Stout winner from purchased seeds? Maybe....( most likely not) but you can get something that is worth keeping, using and possibly registering with whatever characteristics you may be looking for in the seeds you purchase.

Jamie Gossard said he bought 5 seeds from Bob Faulkner several years ago off the auction, he has 2 future intros out of it one being http://www.daylilynet.com/blue...

He did pay a very pretty penny (more than $200) for those 5 seeds though so it's a good thing he got some intro out of it.

Oh my, more than $200 for 5 seeds, but look what he got. However, he did good now
didn't he, especially with 2 future intros.

Char, those are lovely plants to work with, and who knows what may come from them
in future crosses. If every cross was the most perfect flower out there, well, I can't even
imagine how that would turn out. It would take all the guesswork and planning out of it.

Jamie bought some seeds from me this year. I sure hope he gets something nice from them. You know, I think I made a mistake. I don't think it was Jamie, I think it was ValleyDan, who is Dan Bachman.

Since I just started 3 yrs ago, building my daylily garden, ie collecting over 200 daylilies now I have not had a chance to do any hybridizing. My goal was to gather enough dayliles so I could have a fair amount of choice of daylilies to cross. Besides which, I have been too busy digging. and digging! Last year, I ordered 34 daylilies. This year only 13. I have a seedling bed to evaluate from seeds planted last May. And more seedlings will be added to that bed in the Spring. So it's enough.

I have won a fair amount of new seeds from the LA. The ones I am excited about are the following.

Icicles X Gaskins A-103
Cutting Loose X Gaskins A-103- A

Thumb of 2012-12-16/ARoseblush/3cc4ae
Gaskins 103-A (photo- Mary Gaskins)

'Softly And Tenderly X Arabella Pearl(Steve Todd recently registered Arabella Pearl seedling as 'Victoria Josephine')

Thumb of 2012-12-16/ARoseblush/077720

Other seeds I am excited about are:

Underdog (Gossard) X Journey of Magic (Petit)

Power Surge X Can't Touch This (Nicole)
South Western Memories (Salter) X Can't Touch This
Horned Viper X Dr. Stump
Fourth of July in Georgia X Briar Patch (Mary Gaskins new intro better known as 'Brer Rabbit and the Briar Patch')
Briar Patch X Deadliest Catch
Four Eyes X Soul Catcher
etc, etc...

Germinating seeds in the Winter during our cold snowy winters keeps me from being bored, and just makes waiting for Spring to return, a lot more bearable for me. Hurray! Hurray!

Both those photos are real beauties. You have some great crosses there.
Agree 100%, seedlings keep me from being bored during cold winter too. Nice
to see something green growing.
