Now that you mentioned it, Carol, I remember well the summer camp that my orchids had to endure while the OC was being constructed. Most of the orchids did well except for the Phals. I think I lost 8 or 9 of them.

Jim that coloured one you posted isnt Irene Finney, isnt Irene Finney a big pink? Isnt Irene Finney Lc. Bruno Alberts x C. JA Carbone? Yours looks like Irene's Song which is Irene Finney x Maris song. Anyway i love it!
Lots of nice orchids there!
Heres my Irene Finney x Lyn Spencer.
Bree, you are absolutely correct on the name of Lc. Irene's Song. I should have gone out to check the tag instead of doing it from memory. I'll go back and edit the post.
Ursula, we have a nice guest room with its own bath and a private entrance into the OC. You are welcome anytime. Bring your own pruners.

I've been out re-potting some newer orchids today so I thought I'd take a picture of them. The first is Wilsonara Red Stars 'Rooster'.
The second one is Epc. Haiku Twinkie 'Red Elf'.
And finally Dendrobium Chan Chao. I know these are blooming and I usually wait to repot until they finish but these are new and were still in tiny plastic pots crammed with moss. I just couldn't take it.

Yikes Jim...what an amazing show you have going on right now! This is the first year that I've noticed dramatic
fragrance when I walk in the greenhouse, really reminds me of spring..tulips and muscari. And what a story about
the snake..I practically had a heart attack just reading about it, I can't imagine dealing with it in my own house!
I've got a couple of new blooms today
Lc. Trick or Treat 'Orange Rock' x Blc. Waianae King 'Orchidheights' HCC/AOS and Slc. Fire Magic 'Nora'
Especially the Slc. Fire Magic 'Nora'. Lindsey, if you do ever get a snake in the house, try to get it to a tile surface. It's like putting them on roller skates and gives you a big tactical advantage.

Hm, it may not sell well with the snake in residence, Lindsay.
Been away this week, but I'll be home tomorrow afternoon and can't wait to see what's new in the garden. We went to the botanical garden here - Gr Cayman - again this year, and as with last year, all the orchids seem to have just finished blooming. I am determined to come back in the springtime next year. They have thousands of plants mounted nicely in trees around the park, and some really huge beauties including two huge Grammatophyllum scriptum that still had the spent bloom stems on them.

No snakes here, just some Orchids are doing their thing! I may have to put Jim on speed dial, we have plenty of Snakes at our place in Pennsy. At least in the early years we were almost overrun with Snakes, most of them Garter and large Black Snakes. I did see a Copper Head once.
Anyway - back to the Orchids -
I LOVE the scent of Lc (John Mossman x Irving Dietsche 'Inky') x Lc Don DeMichaels, imagine Carnations and Vanilla, it smells really pretty. It even overpowers the Blc Chia Lin which is no slouch either in the scenting department.
First of three spikes:
One of my favorites this time of year is Coelia bella or Bothriochilus bellus. The blooms emerge together with the new growth and - imagine the scent of sweet Almond paste or Marzipan, sheer heaven. The plant is really huge, I should have split it last Spring, but didn't have the heart. The pseudobulbs have the shape and color of Granny Smith apples, very attractve.
Ceratostylis philippinensis starts to produce tons of tiny blooms. These are strongly Spearmint scented.
And Barkeria melanocaulon opens a spike right on schedule.
