Phew!
At last.
Well done janinilula.
Both Chamaelirium and Schoenocaulon are in Melanthiaceae so are sort of related.
Think that is it finally solved.

Yes! Schoenocaulon texanum is the name of my mystery plant--some of the common names: Texas Feathershank, Green lily or Texas Sabadilla.

Thanks to janinilula, silversurfer, Henhouse, frostweed, Danita and porkpal for your help with this. You all are the best! Thank You! Hurray!

This is an awesome site for looking up what wildflowers are blooming or about to bloom in your area. Find where you live on the map provided, that is what I do and they list the plants. You can narrow the search by flower color or other attributes. There must be other ways to plot where you live. Have fun with it!

Its easy for me to believe in miracles when science can't explain why a blade of grass has its shape and that is just one plant and one attribute.

I believe this is Spring Lady's Tresses. in the wild orchid group. We have a few on our property in AR, but did not know what they were until I remembered back when I was a baby photographer, I saw them in the Big Thicket in TX.

Please just pause a moment and compare the shape of the flowers heads. Xerophyllum tenax-Beargrass flowers are short, fat, almost round, almost pyramid shaped. With unopened flowers on the top.
See pic 1.and 2 below..with thanks to wiki!
Nothing like the flowers that started this thread ..which are thin, sparce...a spike with flowers open from top of the stem to the bottom. See pic 3 below.
