Orchid Masterpiece has Grey Pearl in its background. That's why it has those wonderful gray and beige tints mixed in with the mauve.

Sue and I went to our local Home Depot, which is huge, and they had nothing -- a few tree roses and a few carpet roses and I can't remember what else. Anyway, they did not have Orchid Masterpiece, so if you happen to see another one, Toni, please get it for me.

I think Toni's Home Depot is exceptionally good. Ours never has anything interesting.

I guess their supply is a regional thing, we rarely see any special roses at HD.

The good ones must stop in Denver. they for sure don't make it to the Home Depots in Kansas!
I've been so envious of Toni when I read about the great roses she finds. Earlier this week i was in Lowes and decided to see if they had anything other than Knockouts, when I saw a display of HT's for $5 on clearance! I looked and about screamed! They had Walking on Sunshine...for $5!!!!! I bought 3! They were in great shape, blooming. I've searched every nursery around here for that rose, and all were either sold out or couldn't get it. So now I'm not quite as jealous of Toni. Big Grin
(They also had Black Cherry, Sheer Bliss, Cinco de Mayo, Mardi Gras, Toro and Laura Bush!)
Score one for Cindi! And what's even funnier...I bought enough that my little hybrid car was full and overweight, so I didn't go inside to check out the clearance racks. A friend called me the next day to tell me she was in there on her lunch hour and several big racks were full of plants marked down to .25. She said she couldn't wait in line and she wanted me to go buy some for her. Told me about all the great plants she saw. Big pots of lilium, dianthus, salvias, etc etc. I couldn't get away until 9:30 that night, and when I got there, what was left was pretty sad. The clerks told me about all the great plants I had missed. The racks had been there for 3 days, and it wasn't until that day that they started selling. For once, I was ok with that. No problem. I got my Walking on Sunshine roses and I was happy for all the other people who went home with bargains. Less for me to have to plant and water, and maybe I'm kicking my plant obsession. So happy dance all the way home. And..they still had a few of the Walking on Sunshine left. Silly people, buying dried up petunias and passing up a great rose.
I am sorry I couldn't help my friend get some. She buys for me all the time.

Oh, they had Dick Clark too! I went back today and got another Dick Clark. Everything I got was blooming so I am positive they are correctly labeled. Missed out on Colorific. The one I have is a puny baby from Chamblees, but I think it will make it.
I picked up a damaged tree rose for $5 this time. It had no tag, but they had others that were carpet roses grafted on standards, and Sunsprite, I think. This one had a yellow blossom but didn't look like Sunsprite. Have you seen any at your Lowes? I would like to get a name on mine. I've never had a tree rose make it through the winter, and this one's starting behind the 8 ball, so it may just go in a pot with other annuals.
It was still 99 degrees at 8 pm today and tomorrow will be even hotter. Not looking forward to digging big holes but they'll cook if I leave them in pots.
Pretty sure I killed an oak tree today by watering it in the pot. Probably steamed it.
boo hoo...should have gotten it in the ground a week ago. Sad

Well, looks like that's it for the season. The big boxes aren't getting any more roses in, the LGS are out of roses for the most part.. short season this year. I got some purdies, to be sure, but just not enough. OH well, season will start back up when I start ordering for spring!
