I think it'll open more tonight and then it may be there in the morning, but usually something takes the flowers away...maybe squirrels? The plant is a scraggly mess of strappy leaves. It only blooms on old growth, so I understand. Mine looks like a car ran over it.

Hope your DH is doing better.

Not sure about the fragrance. The flower is still there this morning, but closed. I pried it open a bit and there was a whiff of something, but not sure it was coming from the cereus or something else. The bloom was near the ground and I didn't think to stick my nose down there in the dark last night! Maybe 'Google' it?

This morning. See how ratty the plant is.

We had rain overnight with lots of lightning. It was timely because we had Paul Yura, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the Nat'l Weather Service, Austin-San Antonio (whew, that's a title), speak Thursday night at our garden club's ice cream social. His dad is a club member, and Paul had spoken to us last year. I asked him if he'd come again and tell us why we weren't getting any rain! His program was entertaining, as well as informative. More videos and photos, than charts to enjoy. And it was all geared to Austin and San Antonio.

After his presentation, he stayed to answer all our questions until 9 PM. Before he left, I asked him if he'd come to next July's mtg. He said he'd do anything for homemade ice cream and next year he would talk about the effects of storms and hurricanes on central Texas.

And then it rained last night! Coincidence? Whistling

We got light rain after you, real early around 3-4 am but it dissipated and we only got 1/4". I'll take it. I know it went deep into the ground because I had deep watered last night so that it wouldn't just run off. I did it again this morning just to give the areas a good drink after a week of no water. We are in a Severe Drought the news said. I don't want to lose any large trees. I don't see any affects of this drought but you got to help the trees now so they don't die 2 years from now. Heerrrre we go again!!

DH said we had about an inch in the gauge. We had to drive to the lake to mow and then water tonight, as it didn't rain up here! They did get a lot of rain up here last week, so everything is really green!
Glad you got a good shower. I wouldn't have thought to water before the rain, but it does make sense!

I turned the rain gauge upside down and a few drops came out. Don't think that even counts as a trace. Really, really dry here, the wildlife feeding area has to be checked for water twice a day. But glad other people got it! We're rated as Severe Drought right now, also.

Correction! We only got 1/2 inch of rain. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part.

Linda, some of the photos we saw at the mtg. were of the hwy. by the Quarry under water. The scary part of it was that the overpass was under water! No one ever thought about that possibility when the overpass was built. They have to evaluate the safety of it now. It's really either feast or famine.

Pork pal, I hope you get some rain soon. I feel bad complaining about my yard when people need rain worse than we do to take care of their animals and fields.

Nice! We were in the city today and came home to find out it rained out here...over 3/4 inch in the gauge!

In the last couple of days, we've gotten over an inch of rain. It's great! I took my camera outside today after the sun came out and caught this shot of some passie foliage.
