I love it, especially the brightly painted ones. It would be easy to run a sander over the boards to do away with the splinter problem.

I saw a pallet on the side of the road yesterday. I said somebody will make a planter out of that and drove on by. Rolling on the floor laughing

Did you see how nice they look sanded (there were a couple of sanded and shellacked ones in that link and they look great!) - well in my opinion...then again I like the distressed look Sticking tongue out

If my friend has a pallet bed or bookshelf, I'd ask her if she needs some money. As far as the ones outside....They are a wasp nesting site waiting to happen!

those beds didn't look good to me - except the shellacked one, I don't think most people would even know it was pallet wood Big Grin
The heuchera bed sounds cool though...meant to say that in the other thread Thumbs up

I love the idea of a vertical garden, especially for Semps, etc. I just think the plants would be so crowded. How do they put out their little chicks if they are so crammed close together? Do they live long all crammed in like that? Just curious if anyone has any experience in that regard. The pallet thing would rot. I don't know how long it would take though. The plastic ones you buy would last longer I bet. I saw some for a reasonable price today, but I need to research this more before doing it. I know the plants are going to be crowded and will probably suffer.

Clint you can space them however you want, most people put them in close so they are full and nice right off the bat, but it doesn't have to be that way, mostly they just need really good drainage, so these systems that are available are a good idea because they've been tested. Yet they can be expensive, which is why I decided metal frame...so mine is the metal shelving that you see in bakeries, I had 2 shelves that somehow randomly showed up at my building, and they were shelves with bricks for a couple of years, but now I've confiscated them and will turn them into mini walls. Again, I'll know more this summer. I'm hoping that if they start getting crowded out, I can pick some off and make more room, I don't think they'll die so suddenly that I wouldn't notice...there are others who have done this who may know more though. I like the idea of metal ones. That should hold up for a very long time. I could probably sell that pallet I saw and buy me a metal shelf!

Yep probably! Rolling on the floor laughing I know you're thinking of going back out there and getting it! Rolling on the floor laughing
Meanwhile, don't remember what thread it was on but I said I'd seen a metal sculptural piece in the trash...I did go back and get it, but I needed help getting it home, and the friend who was helping me wanted it more than I did Rolling on the floor laughing He suggested I use a floor lamp base for what I want, good idea, now I have to find that! nodding

Here is a company that has researched and builds green walls. http://www.thelivingwallco.com... (scroll down page for a bunch of pictures) I wish it was possible to buy the "bricks" and build you own. I'd love a huge living wall!

That is cool Chris.
What a great way to plant hardy succulents if you have some contour to your property. Mine is flat as a pancake. Sad

Those are nice. Never seen those before.
The only flat places I have are the ones created by rockeries and concrete walls. Shrug! Makes you strong.
