@Char Thank you! Would I be correct in referring to the look of Palantir as "reflexed spatulate?" Basically I guess I'm looking for quilling on all tepals. Luckily, I'm flexible enough to avoid frustration; flower appearances can indeed be inconsistent!

@Floota I appreciate you sharing his name. I've not seen Mr. Clement's intros, but I'm going to look now!

I was trying to decide how to describe the blooms, quilled did not seem to fit exactly, spatulate.. seemed not exactly correct, Char's description seemed just right!

Ken, I checked on August Flame in our database, and it has 7 child plants. When I clicked on that I noticed that AF was used both as the pod and pollen parent, so you probably can successfully do either -- or both.

I don't think I would call it reflexed, the petals don't bend across the width. It's a quilled crispate, with quilling (lengthwise curling) on petals and sepals and yes, I believe what you are looking for is a quilled criapate UF.
The quilling of the petals on Palantir, with no reflexing, gives an illusion of the spatulate subform, being the petals appear narrow in the throat and wider at the petal ends. That was the reason I suggested also looking at the spatulate forms that might have quilled sepals. Finding a quilled on all segments, non reflexing UF crispate that looks like Palantir in that image could be difficult!

You might also check Ned Roberts ( Roberts-N) cultivars. Talon and Lavender Handlebars came to mind this afternoon.

@Char and @shive1 I did lots of research here on the NGA site this evening. I've found several I REALLY like, a couple of which are for sale on the LA. Of course, Blue Starlight, which has a bloom close to Palantir's shape is like $39 plus S&H, so that's not bloody likely! I'm looking up Talon and Lavender Handlebars now!

P.S. In case you're wondering, I learned today my stimulus payment won't mail until 3/26/21. The last one mailed as well, allegedly on 1/6/21, and I got it 50 days later. Plus, it's destined for a new dryer (there goes half) and a new loveseat (there goes the rest). Rolling on the floor laughing

Although Linda Ball's Dance of the Fairies isn't quite quilled crispate on all-tepals like Palantir, it has a similar shape. I've been watching it since 2019. I bought it from her on the LA last night, along with a couple of others for good measure.

I also found others that are similar on the LA, so watching them. They're highlighted on the list below.Thumb of 2021-03-21/MrKGDickie/42cf2e
If anyone knows of a UF Crispate cultivar that is quilled on all 6 tepals (or more, if poly), PLEASE let me know! I don't know why so obsessed with this; I guess I just think it looks cool.

You made me realize that I have a daylily that has a similar look. Not the same ... just similar. It's Dan Trimmer's Windmill Lane.

That's a cool one...and just like that, it's on my list! It's a good thing I've shifted from an "I must have that" mentality to.a "wouldn't it be nice" approach. Smiling

Simply stepping further into the addiction Ken. There will always be "must haves", now you'll have 2 lists instead of one! Whistling Hilarious!

Glad you found something close and were able to add it to your collection! Another one I thought of today, check out Cheap Quills and kids.....

Since Ken has brought up the "Paywall" concept, I was wondering if anyone was aware of a website where people can swap daylilies instead of pay $$ for them? Even 3-way, or 4-way swaps (person A has what you want but you do not have what they want, but person C does...etc).
This would significantly cut down on paying for them directly, if you would otherwise have been unable to afford the one you wanted.
If not, anyone want to set up a website? Thumbs up
Hypothetically, we all have wanted lists here. If we added the list of what we had too, then an algorithm to match people up could be written into this current website without too much difficulty, I would imagine.
Just a thought.

Daylily clubs are often good places to do swaps along with reasonable priced sales. Nice sales are often offered in the classifieds here and there are people on here willing to trade.
But, back to the question of a trade site specifically for daylilies, I don't know of any. I had at one time thought that trades might cut down on the hybridizers business, but now I don't think it would actually. I think it might even increase it as the "trade habit" can sometimes become as additive as "bidding". You have to have newer plants most times for people to want to trade, it is almost always the latest and greatest people want to trade for.

There used to be a trademart site set up years ago where daylily folks would do trades. You signed up, listed your wants and haves and then trading would open on a specific day & time, usually a Friday evening I think. That's when everyone signed up would be able to see everyone's lists.
We do have a Plant and Seed Trading forum on NGA. I don't know that it's been used much for daylilies.
If someone wanted to post a trade list of wants and haves to the "Want List" in this forum you could do that and then use tmail for contact. I tend to view posts in the want list as members looking to purchase or trade and if I have something I can offer that someone is looking for I usually do.

Thanks to @Char for informing me about the sale of a Cliffjumper fan on LA, I am now the proud new parent of the one I coveted (more than Gollum coveted the One Ring). However, I went a bit crazy as some other person kept bidding against me a ton of times and would not let it go. So I ended up paying much more than twice what it should have cost.
Is it bad I have no regrets?
My precious...

Nice one! I just got that last fall, to honor the late Chadwick Boseman (the actor who played Black Panther in the movie of the same name, who died of colon cancer in 2020). I am hoping to see a bloom this year (fingers crossed). Heck, any daylily bloom would be nice.
