Evelyn, I'm sure this will be a much different year for you! And Sally, I'm sure you will be up to speed by April!
To me that's the worst part of getting older; much longer recuperation time to everything from a simple cold to any kind of surgery. I don't mind looking in the mirror and seeing wrinkles and grey hair, although I will admit it's a bit of a shock because much of the time I feel much younger than what I see; in my mind I feel like in my late 40s. Hilarious!
But when I have surgery or get sick I feel 100 years + old!
And I sure don't have the energy I had when younger; this causes me issues because I try to do too much in a day and then get frustrated because I can't get it all done. I just tell myself I have the time; I will get things done, just takes me longer!

Hmmm... but I don't laugh and have lots of wrinkles.

Grumpy. Lots of rudeness during trip to grocery store.

Yeah, I get you. I'm beginning to think that people are either born that way or they are taught to be rude by their parents! I say the last part because when I was a checker I regularly encountered whole families of rude people, every family member! The kids are often the worst offenders; I can tell you that when I was a kid if I spoke that rudely to an adult I would have gotten my mouth washed out with soap when I got back home! And I always said ma'am or sir; I still do that, and often to folks younger than me.
Seems we are raising whole generations with absolutely no manners at all.
When was the last time someone held a door open for any of you?
I make my son do this; he does it automatically now, and I've often had folks comment on this.

Probably 75 to 85% of the time in my small town. I guess I'm lucky here. Hurray!

Before covid, one of my sons friends would open the car door for me, or any lady. Then it became a competition who could get to the car door first to open it for me, my son or his friend.

I'm grumpy because I don't have any new seed catalogs yet. I sent for them towards the end of December. I haven't really ordered seeds in quite a few years as acouple of our local nurseries have a nice selection of seeds that the big box stores don't have. But last year...nurseries were closed for quite a while and when they did open back up was quite a run on them. I never did go. And I've pretty much used up the seeds I did have.

Grumpy at our government for job postings that were sent to me. Excellent opportunity, and I'd love to apply. You need a marine biology degree. Which I do have. And it'd be a wonderful opportunity for the career path I'd like to follow.

Unfortunately, the listing specifies you need to be a member of at least one of four groups of people to be allowed to apply for it, in order to promote diversity. I don't fit within those groups and apparently therefore can't apply.

This disappoints me, because I'm a huge supporter of diversity and equality (I'm also not exactly what you'd consider "an average person" by societal standards either, just to make a point). But singling out four groups of people and requiring applicants to be one of those four to be allowed to apply for a great job opportunity, doesn't feel like equal opportunity to me...

Just my opinion, anyways. I don't like when things single out groups of people. ANY groups of people. If it isn't available to everyone (aside from education or skills required for the job), then it isn't an equal opportunity in my eyes. So it disappoints me to see that, and see it advertised as a way to promote equal opportunity and diversity...

Everyone with the education and skills necessary for those jobs, should have a chance. Sad
I'd say that whether I personally was qualified or not.

I agree, TK. In Ca. they revoked the laws about affirmative action. A neighbor of might was one of the people behind the revocation. It was kind of funny because a friend who worked in the hiring field told me that they were only required to consider people. But when they had applicants like my neighbor they could tell him "sorry, it's this affirmative action thing" rather than the truth which was that he was pretty weird and not suitable for the jobs he thought he was entitled to.

I just got back from a bout of hours of shopping. Set for a couple of weeks or so. Found huge (50 lb) bags of rice and beans at one store and got one of each. With two medium-size dogs and five large ones food disappears rapidly. I have roaster in which I can cook large batches of rice and beans with a little chicken or hamburger or liver. Can also add eggs, blended veggies and other things. The dogs seem to like it about as much as their dry food. With large quantities of ingredients preparation goes quickly. Of course, the dogs think a steady diet of roast chicken, fish or steak would be better but they aren't paying the bills!

Without getting into specifics I'll just say that I think its' going to be a while before many of us fully recover from the events of this week. I wish all participants well.

TK, I totally agree with you. We've gone from providing diverse groups equal opportunities to limiting those opportunities to just them!
I'm so glad to see manners aren't dead. Makes me hope for the future.
My gripe? Y'all may not agree with this, but let's MOVE ON! This endless dissection of what happened Wednesday is really getting on the last nerve I have left. All the endless discussions about what did happen, what should happen, as if the general population are a bunch of complete dummies who can't tie their own shoes! I SAW what happened on live tv, I don't need some bubble headed reporter to TELL me what happened or what to THINK about it. Highly unlikely that the current president will be removed from office before the president elect has the swearing in. Do what you need to do to secure the Inauguration, but quit telling us about it every hour of the day. Go ahead and arrest these mob members if that's correct. Covid is at its worst right now, and no one seems to think that's bad. Really?

Another eye candy one is Select Seeds... and Almost Eden plants, I love that online sight.
Now if it were the time to plant here..... well, lettuce and spinach planting coming soon. Then starting harvesting the baby leaves after about 40 days. I should have fresh salad by mid March.

I don't even remember what I said. I angered my mother once when I was little. I got the soap bar. It never happened again, so clearly I learned.
