David, 'Honour Thy Father' looks very nice! I like that the bloom looks like it is standing up above the foliage.

Nice ones, Gary! Hope that pleated look is what you were going for on your seedling. It is pretty.

When I think of prettiest faces in the garden, I think of simplicity and elegance. I have many patterns in the garden, but most of them have contrasting colors which are striking. So here is my list of prettiest flowers in the garden.

LINDA GLUCK is one of the prettiest faces in my garden.

Zoia -

I am curious about your comment that everyone has problems with Spacecoast Sea Shells. It just won the Lenington, which supposedly means it grows well in many different regions. What kind of problems did you have with it?

Kousa -

I love Dr. Strangelove, but it is hard to find except at a premium price. Interesting habit it sometimes throws scapes with completely lavender blooms which will continue to bloom that way, so the suggestion is to make sure the grower has seen the fans bloom that you are purchasing.

One of my all time favorite faces is Four by Four, a Plaisance white double poly. It bloomed for me in its first year but not this past year. Hopefully in 2021.

Wendy, to answer about Spacecoast Seashells. I've had it since 2017, it hasn't increased at all and I'm lucky if the one scape has six or seven buds on it. If you read the extensive commentary under Daylily of the Day " Spacecoast Seashells" you'll see that a lot of folks have had a similar experience to mine. I'm not sure who's decided to award it the Lenington,mInwouldnt exactly call what it has been doing " Growing Well". Maybe next year will be the charm? We live in hope...

I have one seedling of the cross Spacecoast Sea Shells x Whale Tails started in 2019. I started two seeds, both germinated, but one died last winter. The one that survived looked great last summer, but no bloom. Maybe this year Crossing Fingers!

I got the seeds from Daniel. I never tried Spacecoast Sea Shells.

Why would you consider it unusual that in the far north an evergreen daylily doesn't do well? Most dormants don't do well in the in the south and even a hint of dormancy spells doom in my beachside garden. I simply do not understand.

David R - The name Hayla Kayla appeals to me. It's a pretty double!

David M - I agree about Linda Gluck. I think I got it after seeing photos of it from you and Hillbilly. Your ruffly pinks are marvelous too.

Mocha Joe - Tattered Heart is a beauty. I love appliques!

Greg - Stone Palace Almighty is attractive. I like its colors and white edge. And an 8-incher too! The only Stone Palace intro I grow is Stone Palace Rejoice. It's an excellent grower and rebloomer.

Florange ( Arlene), the funny thing is that I have many Evergreens that do perfectly well up here. It usually doesn't get all that cold here, rarely dropping to zero, in fact, rarely dropping to the single digits. Most of our winters are spent between the teens and the forties. A nice layer of oak leaves on top and the majority of the daylilies are pretty happy. I've lost a couple of Evergreens along the way ( Daria comes to mind) but most of them survive and even thrive. Sadly, Spacecoast Sea Shells would clearly do better somewhere warmer. I might try moving it to another location, if there's still no sign of new fans next summer.

I thought a good way to approach this might be to go through my photos of daylilies that I no longer grow because they died or just didn't perform well enough here (zone 6b)

I love seeing everyone's beautiful daylilies here - such a treat for us in the winter. Hurray!

LILLIAN'S IVORY TOWER - My very favorite daylily! It really is almost a pure white here with that beautiful green throat, and always elegant! Great job, Fred!

WATERMELON SUMMER - Spectacular blooms!

EXPLOSION IN THE PAINT FACTORY - A real eye catcher

GUY'S OUTRAGEOUS - Tall, elegant and beautiful!

MIDSUMMER TRANQUILITY - Hybridized by our own Daylilly99, and an absolute favorite!

PURPLE NINJA - Love it!

IRISH MAYHEM - I'm really taken with this one, and it can look so different

RASPBERRY MINT SORBET - New in 2020 and not many blooms, but oh so pretty!

MAGIC OF OZ - a real beauty

And I just had to finish with one of my own seedlings - Parentage: RUFFLED PINK PERFECTION x WONDER OF IT ALL

I notice that these days I seem to be drawn more to daylilies with long drapey petals and a more triangular shape... hmmmm... Whistling Anyway, these are the blooms that really caught my eye this last year.

Debra,
I looked at Stone Palace Rejoice (Evick 2017) on the database...I like the color and the deep ruffles!

I have grown a few of the other Stone Palace daylilies. Another favorite is Stone Palace Merrymaker (Evick 2012). It's brighter than this photo is showing. Tallish scapes and large flowers make a strong presentation.
