While we're sharing our seed storage ideas, I'll share mine. I had an old under bed storage tote that I decided to use for seeds. Then had to expand thanks to seed saving lol. Most are now getting too old to swap so last year I started my seed list with everything older than 2018. This year I'll plant everything older than 2020, then hopefully get my hoard down to a manageable level.

But I use cereal & cracker boxes cut down. Prefer Velveeta boxes because they're heavier cardboard & don't have writing on them. But family size Lucky Charms are perfect for those 2"x3" baggies upright, while pop tart boxes fit them perfectly longwise.

I started out using the photo holders, too! But I ended up having too many seeds per category to use the smaller plastic boxes... Having to open three boxes to find the right cucumbers SHOULD tell me I've got too many cucumbers but instead it told me I should use bags, lol.

Alright, shameless promotion time. We just bought this property last year & this year my goal is to get this bed planted. Soil is sandy though I'm working on amendments, very dry, and full sun. Looking for a small tree or bush, perennials, & possibly unusual grasses. Prefer US natives, but open to all ideas. What seeds do you have listed that might pique my interest?

Well, I don't think I have anything up right now that matches that description, but somewhere around here I have some "fracking" daikon radish if you want some help with soil amendment, I could go looking and pack some up for you. I also some fresh mini clover seeds that work nicely for green manure.

Watermelon does really well in sandy soil, in full son. I'm not offering any watermelon, but I know other members are.

Great ideas! Joolie, I already have a bag of radish so I'm good there, but thanks for the offer. And watermelon is a good idea too. It'll be a few years before this bed is fully planted, & watermelon will fill in the space for now.

I'm here to toot my own horn:

📯 The yellow hollyhock I'm offering, I've been growing in my garden for years. It comes up faithfully every year and reseeds itself so it's establishing a nice grouping. I'm 99% certain it was originally Swallowtail Seeds' Russian Yellow. The flowers are delicate and ruffly and make a great companion with a short salvia or something of the sort. They often need some support if they aren't planted with a bush to hold them up, but it's worth it.

📯 I honestly don't know where my red hollyhock came from - it's in the middle of my "purple corner" but it's such a gorgeous deep red and makes such a beautiful little star in the center, I can't bear to evict it.

Many of these full packets I'm offering are ones I bought extra of because they have performed so well in my garden and I really overestimated how many I'd plant/give away every year!

I really love the "space master" and "bush champion" cucumbers for small spaces. This year I planted from my open 2017 packets and thought I'd need to seed heavily but nope, the germination rate was perfect. More cucumber plants than I knew what to do with!

Okay that's enough horn tooting. Anyone who has seeds they would like to highlight for me? 😁

I agree about the cucumbers, Joolie.
I already snagged one of your Bush Champion packets, and one of janinilulu's Spacemaster packets.
Maybe I'll get a red Hollyhock, too.

1) Anyone interested in some seeds from an Aloha pepper that will likely produce solid YELLOW bell peppers (even though it's parent plant is a mutation of Maduro)? If you're curious about learning a bit more about it, Pepper Geek has a great, fairly short video explaining it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... Should I list it? Anyone interested? I could probably make 3-4 packs of it to put in the swap.

2) Anyone interested in ORANGE bell peppers? I always save seeds from at least one (store-bought, organic) pepper each year because they are the most delicious sweet peppers I've ever eaten. I don't know what type they are, though. If anyone is interested, I can probably add 2-3 packets to the swap.

I like both, but my older brother and I are really the ones in the family who like bell peppers so that's why I grow them. An good bell pepper is hard to beat.

I removed my listing for purple prairie clover. I just learned I haven't been collecting those seeds properly. It's quite an act by hand to get the little seed out of them.

Just want to make sure you know that orange trees planted from seed may never bear fruit. They could, but it's a chance you'd be taking. So if you had lots of land and you don't care if some of them don't produce, seeds are great. If you want to make sure each tree produces, you want to use cuttings/grafting, etc.

I'm talking about the hardy ones, not your standard citrus tree and that are less about the fruit and more about the thorny habitat.
