Last minute advertisement for someone else's seeds:

@NancyRehbock is offering the tomato variety "Moskvich" which is by far the best tomato I have ever grown. The plant is large and vigorous, it produces early and is indeterminate, producing until frost! Not kidding, I still have growing fruit on mine RIGHT NOW.

Best of all, the fruit itself is very low acid, so if you're prone to heartburn after eating tomatoes, you might be interested in trying this variety. The tomatoes are a nice medium size, the size you normally get if you buy the "hothouse" tomatoes at the grocery store, and they have a thin skin that isn't tough.

Every year I grow other tomato types just to try them, and every year Moskvich is still my all time favorite, unbeatable. I always give my neighbor a couple of plants, the Moskvich and whatever else, and they always enthuse about the Moskvich.

So, needless to say, I have enough of these seeds for myself, but if you really love tomatoes, you should grab these and give them a try next year!

I actually came here to ask for recommendations for tomato varieties with a strong tomato flavor for my husband. I'll try to get a packet of the 'Moskvich'. I do not like raw tomatoes but love them cooked. My husband loves them any way, raw or cooked. Any good ones? I've bid on several but I got those because the pictures were pretty🤭😂or they said something like 'prolific'.

Kellogg's Breakfast, Cherokee Purple, Rutgers, Beefsteak, among others are all tomatoes that are said to be some of the tastiest and easiest to grow (Cherokee Purple doesn't produce as many tomatoes as the other listed varieties, but I've read that the flavor is absolutely amazing).

I've gone back & added what I could to my wishlist just in case. I also looked at the seeds I won & my finger was heavy on tomatoes. I have about 15 varieties coming so surely he will find something he likes. 2 or 3 are beefsteak I think.

I didn't list any of my tomato hoard, but if you're interested I'll see if I have any of these & toss them in your pack.

Mamie Brown is probably my latest favorite. Thick & meaty, great flavor, very few seeds. Produced about fist size fruits, pretty pink color.

Black Krim is a better producer than Cherokee Purple for me, but the taste seems the same.

Grandpa's Cock's Plume was another that tastes good, but I grew it in a bad year so production was low.

If you like paste type for cooking, Heidi is my pick. There are a lot of negative reviews, but in our hot, humid drought, it produces like gangbusters.

And sungold is a given. Crazy prolific cherry tomatoes that produce from spring until full on winter. We've had a couple frosts and this one is still going.

Thank you! I bought a couple packets of Black Krim, one for the swap & one to keep.

My personal favorite is black krim. I've been known to eat big fresh bowlfuls with a just a little sprinkling of salt. Heavily lobed, said to have a smokey flavor. I don't know, I just love 'em. As of this writing, plenty still up for dibs.

Are the fruit edible? Did it grow naturally like that or did it have to be pruned? I'm seeing a vegetable garden surrounded by that as a living fence to keep critters out.

They can be, but they're bitter. It was a photo from NY botanical gardens

@Hammerojuctice - that citrus bush/tree might be: Trifoliate orange (Citrus trifoliata)

Years ago, I first came across it in another seed swap (Ella on cubits.com ) as "Poncirus trifoliata", but its accepted scientific name now seems to be "Citrus trifoliata".

Does anyone know how deer resistant Citrus trifoliata might be? (A friend once pointed out to me years ago that if a plant is edible to humans, then deer may very well like it too. He was talking about the edible Ostrich Fern - Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris) , which another friend who tried to eat it described it as "fuzzy cat hair balls.") Deer pressure here is high, so if I were to try this hardy orange in a boundary planting, might anyone know whether deer would be more likely to avoid it or eat it?

Well, where there's a will to landscape with edible plants, there's a way. So I say keep experimenting and exploring possibilities. Maybe this might make a good theme for another swap?

That's it, but seems like the only places in seeing are either Etsy or eBay and I'm not sure I want to trust them for seeds

@lovesblooms if you don't have extra, you can give them mine. I got them because they sound interesting but I've got more than enough to plant without them.

If you like yellow tomatoes our personal favorite is Pineapple. Lower acid , yellow tomato with red marbeling and on a good year they can reach 2 lbs. we love this one for fresh eating!
